Pokemon is an incredible franchise that will always have a very special place in my heart. Nothing can beat the feeling of crushing your rival with creatures that you capture and raise. Nothing can top the feeling of defeating the prestigious gym leaders as you collect gym badges to further your quest of becoming a pokemon master. And, of course, nothing will ever quite match the feeling that you get when you defeat the rumored champion of your region, as you rise to the throne successfully becoming a true pokemon master. This is essentially the plot of every mainstream pokemon game. Throughout your journies through a variety of unique regions, you've probably developed longlasting memories and favorites. This is the topic to rate those favorites. You don't have to vote them strictly based on which hsd the best graphics/music/pokemon, etc. Let nostalgia play a factor too, if you please!
First, rate your favorite pokemon games. The order is favorite to least favorite. The games that are being rated:
*RBGY (Red, Blue, Green, Yellow)
*GS (Gold, Silver)
*C (Crystal)
*RS (Ruby, Sapphire)
*E (Emerald)
*FRLG (Fire Red, Leaf Green)
*DP (Diamond, Pearl)
*Pt (Platinum)
*HGSS (Heart Gold, Soul Silver)
*BW (Black, White)
*BW2 (Black 2, White 2)
*XY (X, Y)
*ORAS (Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire)
Here's mine:
Pt > BW2 > ORAS > XY > BW > HGSS > E > C > FRLG > DP > RS > GS > RBGY
Platinum is, by no doubt, number one. What can I say? This game takes the cake for me. This game was my childhood. Clocked in way more than 999 hours for it, completed the national dex for the first time, along with hosting soe of my favorite legendaries (Dakrai, Arceus, Shaymin, Giratina). Plus, the Nostalgia meter for this game is off the charts. Me and my friend used to call eachother every day and talk about tons of stuff. We would discuss what swarm we had, any discoveries we had made, what crazy team we beat the elite 4 with, Old Chateau lore, little lies we would make up to get eachother hyped, and more. It fixed all the problems with DP, and it had my favorite post game. That little island with te three cities? That was the best thing ever. It was the first game (excluding DP, which is in the same gen) to feature Wi-fi connectivity, which was a huge deal. I could fight my friend from anywhere at all? Awesome. The Wi-fi club will also always hold a special place in my heart for those cute little minigames they had. Not to mention that Team Galactic is by far my favorite team, along with Cynthia being my favorite champion. This gen also introduced the pokeradar, which is my favorite key item ever. (Well, besides maybe the bike. )
BW2 was tremendous. Giving accessibility to a unique array of pokemon fixed the glaring problem that BW faced. Join avenue is also one of my favorite in-game features. BW2 also had my favorite pokegirl, Rosa. xP The move tutors were, of course, very welcome additions alond with other noticeable features like Pokestar studios and Medal box. It had my favorite "registering key items" system, because it wasn't limited. You could put all of your key items there, if you wanted! New forms to the genies, along with new kyurem forms made for an interesting twist, as well. My all time favorite feature was also introduced in this game, but sadly it has yet to return. The "Free Space" section of your bad was absolutely phenomenal, to me. I put my rare candies, EV training items, Lucky eggs, and gems in there. It was a nifty method of seperating important items. And I loved it.
ORAS was amazing, just like every other pokemon game. I loved the improved graphics, and it allowed for a fun trip through Hoenn once again. Infinite breeding circle makes for quick breeding, (which is awesome for competitive battlers like me) , and the fact that there are two daycares is even better! Double breeding! Twice the effectiveness! It also expanded on the Mega evolution mechanic, along with introducing it's own little niche: Primal Reversion. I like the exclusiveness of Kyogre and Groudons primal reversions, but the mechanic will no doubt be built upon in the future.
XY was the game with all the hype. Generation 6 was a totally new experience that introduced mega evolution to the series. Mega evolution is basically a way to buff a pokemon, simply put. It's also a way to give more representation to fan favorites. (Looking at you Lucario and Charizard) The feature definitely works though, as it gives a fun strategical element to poemon battles. This can be especially frustrating in online battles when facing foes who have more than one poemon capable of mega evolution, and you're thinking "Ok, so is he going to mega evolve that one, that one, or is he even going to mega evolve at all?" The meta game changes they introduced were nice (weather nerfs, new moves, megas) as smogon even gained some signature pokemon (Hello smogonbir...I mean, Talonflame. Hello Smogoninja....I mean, Greninja) Me ans my closest friends still gather at my house every other Friday to eat snacks, and battle/trade in XY. This game would likely be higher on the list but the one thing holding it back: it's post game. Lol, no thanks.
BW had the most interesting story, by far. You've got Team Plasma, who want to liberate pokemon from humans, two unique rivals, Cheren and Bianca, and the misguided king of Team Plasma, N. I loved how Team Plasma's story stretched all the way to the Pokemon league, and it even interrupted your battle with Alder (which is good, beause I hate Alder). Team Plasma's castle was amazing. This game would likely be higher on the list, but the thing that holds it back: The Pokemon. They felt...mediocre at best. It also sucks that you could ONLY encounter gen 5 pokemon during the main story, which sucked. The only gen 5 pokemon I like is Oshawott, Snivy, Golurk, Zoroark, Zekrom. That's it. The others are just 2ugly4me. Garbodor...no thanks. Floating ice cream cone..game freak. What you doing, bro? Mandibuzz...w-what? Another thing holding it back is it's linear-ness. They hold your hand through literally EVERY single point in the game. A few tutorials at the beginning would suffice, thank you very much. One last thing is the C-gear. Not only is it pretty much completely useless, but I find it extremely ugly and unnecessary. It definitely felt like a few steps down from the Poketech.
HGSS was fun through the first playthrough, but that was it. Lyra is my least favorite pokegirl, and Ethan is my least favorite protagonist. It felt like Platinum 2.0, really. I thought the "OMG POKEMANZ FOLLOW YOU!!!!?!?!?!" mechanic was too gimmicky and unnecessary. The pokewalker was great, though. (Until it got destroyed by it's rival: the washing machine) Even though this game didn't have my favorite post game, it no doubt had the best. Fighting Red, 8 more gyms, Gym leader rematches, Pokelathon, Battle Frontier, Bug catching contest, Trainer rematches, and even secret postgame plots (spiky eared pichu ftw!) This game had my favorite rival, which places it a bit higher on the list. This guy is an elitist jerk. Plain and simple. I also love how you can get even the other game's box art legendary post-game, at a whopping level 70. This made it easier to pick which game I wanted. Plus, this game had Auto-running and one of the best touch screen functionality.
Emerald was neat. It summed up Hoenn's story and made both Team Magma and Team Aqua threats in one single game. You could catch all three legendaries in one game. Plus, it introduced the Battle Frontier. Oh, the good times I had with the Battle Factory.
Crystal was also neat, but it felt a little...unnecessary to me. It felt like a cashgrab, like the infamous pokemon anime....I mean pokemon yellow. Another journey through Johto was neat, and each pokemon getting animations was also neat.
FRLG felt too close to the originals to be entertainig for me. While the upgraded graphics and Gen 3 compatibility was awesome, that's it. Well, besides the Sevii islands. Which was easily my least favorite post-game gimmick.
DP felt like a beta test for platinum. It was nintendo's first shot at using the Nintendo DS to make a pokemon game, and it didn't work too well. Everything was super slow. Watching the slow battles pass by was about as fun as watching a Blissey's HP bar decrease in this game (Seriously. If you've never seen this, watch how long it takes.) Do you like to do top tier surfing because you obviously like to live dangerously? Have fun surfing at -6 MPH. Want a Fire type to offer some diversity to your team? Hope you chose Chimchar!
RS was just an OK game. Plain and simple. Team Aqua and Team Magma just didn't seem to stand out that well by themselves (when the teams were both equally involved in Emerald, then it felt like it worked out) The post-game was shabby, at best, and I didn't even spend as long on it asI did in XY (Which is REALLY saying something.)
GS was the only game I really didn't like. There was just sonething about it, idk. I dislike the starters, the region felt too..rushed. It borrowed too much from it's predecessor. It's entire post-game, while still better than XY'S, involved you travelling back through Kanto. While that's nice, that's pretty much it for the post game.
RBGY wasn't bad, just highly outclassed by every other game. Plus, these games are way too glitchy. Lol Missingno.
Second, we rate favorite regions
*Kanto
*Johto
*Hoenn
*Sinnoh
*Unova
*Kalos
Mine:
Hoenn > Sinnoh > Unova > Kalos > Kanto > Johto
Hoenn- This region definitely had the most diverse landscape, with bustling cities, rural towns, cities formed in craters, towns that float on water, towns that rest in trees, giant volcanoes that tower over the region, small islands that have much too explore, and even cities modeled after a shopping mall make for my favorite region.Sinnoh- Unique landscape with lots of variety, a giant mountain that splits the region in half, along with the three lakes that I used to create lore about make for my favorite
Sinnoh- This region felt really diverse with it's huge mountain splitting it in half, and it's signature three lakes I used to create lore about. From the frigid, icy town of Snowbelle to the Marshy city of Pastoria, this region was fantastic.
Unova- More specifically, BW2's Unova. It felt really unique in it's design, and definitely felt like the largest region to me, even if it actually wasn't. Driftveil city was just...fantastic. It was also the first region that explored the premise of "omg large city"
Kalos- Felt a little too ancient-y while Lumiose was the only city that felt modern. This city is just way too big and confusing. It's a pain to try and walk to get to the shop you want to go to. Want me to go Hibernal avenue? Sure, one sec. Let me grab a taxi.
Kanto- Felt like a basic region. Wasn't bad, but it didn't really offer much on it's own.
Johto- Felt nasty to me. Too rushed, or something. 7.8/10 too many caves.
Last, but not least, rate your favorite teams.
Team Rocket (RB)
Team Rocket (GS)
Team Magma
Team Aqua
Team Galactic
Team Plasma
Team Flare
Mine:
Team Galactic > Team Plasma > Team Magma > Team Rocket (GS) > Team Aqua > Team Flare > Team Rocket (RB)
Team Galactic- Just look at these guys. Stylish masterminds with the most memorable commanders. Cyrus is the leader and this guy is like a Psychopathic freak. This guy wants to re-write space and time to destroy and re-create the universe. He came the closest to being successful, too. How much more evil can you get? Even Cyrus not being with Team Galactic anymore didn't stop these guys. Seriously, they are the definition of evil.
Team Plasma- Release your Pokemon! These guys mean business. They will stop at nothing to liberate pokemon. They look like knights, too. Seriously. These guys are scary. Ghetsis is the only man I know that will betray someone that's like a son to him to gain something that he wants. Oh...wait. Lot's of villains do that...nvm. Colress was also my favorite "executive" guy.
Team Magma- These guys look like they are in a cult or something. They look like little demons! These guys bite just as hard as they look. While their goal is really dumb, (>m-muh land!) they look awesome. Maxie is ultimate hipster. Courtney is my waifu. Plus, IGN works for them. (7.8/10 too much water amirite?)
Team Rocket (GS) - Ok, seriously. I don't even know what these guys were trying to do. Reassemble Team Rocket or something? Their broadcasts of doom felt really ominous in the story, and dressing up as them made me feel like cosplay master chef junior.
Team Aqua- Not a fan of pirates, and I dislike water. Their philosophy was even more dumb than Team Magma's (>m-muh water!) These guys are pretty dumb. If the entire world is water, where are they gonna live? Silly doodles.
Team Flare- These Ginyu Force-posing frauds are crazy. They just blindly obey their leader for protection. They don't even have their own ideals what scrubs lol they need to git gud. Lysandre is secretly a Pyroar, also.
Team Rocket (RB)- When I said I didn't know what the other Team Rocket was doing, I wasn't kidding. But what are THESE guys doing? Stealing money or something? These guys are just super boring gg no re.
So, what do you think of my lists? r8, h8, appreci8. pls no bully.
Make your own!
