I thought this was pretty cool and wanted to share it with you guys.
Basically, the South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker made a game titled South Park: The Stick Of Truth. The game is an RPG. The creators are big gaming fans so of course they drew inspiration from a few games, but can you guess which ones?
Their inspiration came from 3 main sources:
Paper Mario: Yep! Our beloved Paper Mario inspired the South Park guys! They loved the 2D/3D style of the Paper Mario games and used it as inspiration for their game. Turns out that they love the series!
The Legend of Zelda: They love this series and drew inspiration from Link. They loved the fact that he is a silent protagonist and wanted to model characters after him. They also love the fact that a hero can be a young child in a strange world.
Earthbound: Following off the theme of a child hero in a strange world. The creators of South Park especially have fond memories of this game. They loved the start where you leave your house and fight battles as a child and eventually things become crazy to the point of saving the world and possibly the universe.
I love South Park and I always knew the creators of the show were big gaming fans, but I had no idea they loved the exact same games as us and used these games as inspiration.
You missed out on some good games, whippersnapper. Back in my day we had actual save points after six bosses! Now you have checkpoints and auto saves and other nonsense. We did not have tutorials either. We had to work for our endings! We also had to walk 16 miles in the snow both ways in order to rent games!
We had graphical limitations like door opening sequences to disguise load times and fog to obscure pop ups and scale problems! We had to work around our limitations to create horror!
But think about this. While the old school horror created it indie horror saved it. For a long time horror game genre was ruined by shooting and we didnt get any actual horror games. But indie horror games brought t back. The tension, the atmosphere and the jumpscares
So what do you say to that, mister Rainpanz?

Well, I do like Siren. And Dead Space and other did focus too much on action and less on atmosphere. I also hated the new Resident Evil games for turning into shooters and loved when the 3DS version brought back the old school atmosphere, so I agree.
My game idea has inspiration from ALL OF THOSE. Add a dash of xenoblade chronicles, magical starsign, professor layton/ level 5 stuff in general , kirby and DnS.
Yes. I have taken inspiration from nearly all of my favorite games
