How do you connect the games of the Mario series together?
The one I believe I actually borrowed from the internet. It has many different branches and includes almost all the games. There are four main branches I'll share. I'll explain why they're connected the way they are later (I'm on a phone right now).
Mario the Blue Collar Hero: Yoshi's Island Donkey Kong Donkey Kong (Game Boy) Mario Bros. Super Mario Bros. Super Mario 3D Land Super Mario Sunshine Luigi's Mansion New Super Mario Bros. Super Princess Peach Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon New Super Mario Bros. 2 Super Mario Land Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars Mario vs. Donkey Kong series
Mario, the Action Hero: Yoshi's Island Yoshi's New Island Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Bros. 3 Super Mario World New Super Mario Bros. Wii New Super Mario Bros. U Super Mario Bros. 2 Super Mario Galaxy 2 Super Mario 3D World Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam

oh reality, it's not for me and it makes me laugh oh, fantasy world and disney girls i'm coming back
Yes it would. Basically all RPGs but sticker star (obviously) and maybe the first paper mario are canon (those two are in universe storybooks tho) I still need to figure put order
I'll start with Blue Collar and surrounding branches.
Like all the timelines, Blue Collar starts with the Mario brothers being born. The stork loses its delivery, and Yoshi's Island takes place.
If Yoshi is defeated, Mario and Luigi are raised by the Koopas. They're on friendly terms with Bowser, as they all grew up together. Mario convinced Bowser not to attack the Mushroom Kingdom and instead united the two kingdoms. This is where Mario Kart and Mario Sports games take place.
However, Yoshi was successful, and the stork made its delivery. To the wrong couple. The stork never came back to fix its mistake, so the couple took care of the Mario Bros in their home located in Brooklyn, New York. Mario grew up, and started going steady with Pauline. He also got a pet gorilla and became a carpenter. You know where this leads, Donkey Kong.
The timeline splits again. In one timeline, Mario successfully captured Donkey Kong, and his son Junior freed him in Donkey Kong Jr. Their story splits when they later bug an exterminator named Stanley before being shipped away to what would later be Donkey Kong Island. Back to Mario, he ends up getting fired for letting a gorilla loose in a construction site. The rest of this section is Mario having jobs as a demolitionist in Wrecking Crew and a boxing referee in Punch-Out!!
Back to Donkey Kong, the other timeline has DK run off with Pauline, causing Mario to give chase in Donkey Kong (Game Boy). He gets Pauline back, but is fired for letting a gorilla loose on a construction site. Luigi gets the idea to open a plumbing business. They find a sewer infested with mutant turtles and crabs, but take care of it in Mario Bros. They then travel down the pipe, trying to find the source of the mutations. They end up in the Mushroom Kingdom, but find it abandoned. They find out the princess is kidnapped, and head out to rescue her. They succeed, and Mario is declared Mushroom Kingdom's hero. However, her kidnapper Bowser does not back down. He tries again, this time using the Tanooki leaves in Super Mario 3D Land. Mario saves her again, and they decide to take a vacation to Delfino Island. Bowser's son reveals himself and kidnaps Peach once more in Super Mario Sunshine. Bowser and his kid are defeated, and Mario and Peach take the vacation they planned. An unspecified time afterwards, Luigi wins a mansion in a contest. Mario goes to check it out, but is kidnapped by King Boo. Luigi ghost-busts the mansion and saves Mario in Luigi's Mansion. Time passes, and Bowser Jr tries to kidnap the princess again. His plan is foiled by Mario, who even skeletonizes his enemy in New Super Mario Bros. Of course, it's not permanent. Huge fast forward, Bowser decides to kidnap the Mario Brothers. Peach saves them in Super Princess Peach, but Mario's kidnapped again in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. Mario fears he is losing his touch, and decides to retire. He tells Luigi to help him collect 1,000,000 coins in New Super Mario Bros. 2 (the kidnapping is not canon). He then tells Luigi about his plan to retire, saying he's using half of the coins they collected to buy an island to live at. He passes the torch to Luigi, who becomes the new hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. He moves to the island and builds Mario Land. He lives a quiet life for a long time. Until one day, when he hears of Princess Daisy's kidnapping. Knowing Sarasaland has no hero, he realizes he has no choice. He ends up saving the day for the first time in a long, long time in Super Mario Land. He returns triumphant, only to find Mario Land is now Wario Land. He gets his six coins from the inhabitants turned evil and defeats Wario in Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins. Mario is back (also, Wario's story begins)! He reconnects with the Mushroom Kingdom. Bowser, hearing about this, kidnaps Peach for old time's sake. This sets in motion the plot for Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. After Smithy's defeat, he returns to his home, but not before borrowing the Geno doll from Gaz. He uses it as a basis for a line of toys, and starts the Mario Toy Company. He then reconnects with his old girlfriend Pauline. This is the end of the Blue Collar timeline: Mario vs. Donkey Kong series.

I think Sticker Star is either a completly new story (through inspired by mainstream games) or is taking place after TTYD but before SPM (there a letter of Goombella but no nods to SPM)

There was a pretty subtle nod to it the beginning of the game, where a Toad claimed that Bowser crumpled him up 256 times. Plus, Kersti's design could easily pass for a Pixl's.

I never thought Mario RPG would happen after so many events. Then again, I never tried connecting these events.
Why is the kidnapping in New Super Mario Bros. 2 not canon again?
It starts the same. The brothers are born, the stork loses its delivery, Yoshi's Island, Yoshi gets Luigi back, and the stork delivers the babies. To the wrong couple.
The stork comes back to fix its mistake, but Kamek attacks him again, and Yoshi's New Island happens. Yoshi again gets them back, and the stork gives the babies to their actual parents.
Mario and Luigi grow up in the Mushroom Kingdom. One day, Bowser's troops turn all the Toads into blocks, bushes, and horsetail plants, and kidnap the princess. They save her in Super Mario Bros. and Mario is declared Mushroom Kingdom's hero. His first act as hero is to liberate all the other lands under Koopa control in Super Mario Bros. 3. He returns home (after saving Princess Peach) and they later took a vacation to Dinosaur Land. Of course, Peach is kidnapped again in Super Mario World. Mario finds a Yoshi and they save Peach again. Bowser has a kid during this time. He then tries to kidnap Peach again. Twice. Mario saves her in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. U. Tired from the adventure, Mario takes a nap and dreams about Subcon and the plot of Super Mario Bros. 2. If Mario fails here, he never wakes up and dreams about Super Paper Mario and Paper Mario: Sticker Star. But of course, he did save Subcon and woke up. Later, the Star festival happened. Bowser became huge and kidnapped Peach in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Also during the Star festival, Bowser kidnapped the Sprixies in 3D World. Mario and friends saving them with Rosalina's help is currently where the series stands, but isn't a definite ending.
oh reality, it's not for me and it makes me laugh oh, fantasy world and disney girls i'm coming back
The brothers are born, blah blah blah, Yoshi's Island, blah blah Yoshi's New Island. Yoshi is defeated and the Toadies start kidnapping more babies in Yoshi's Island DS.
If Yoshi is defeated again, Mario is raised by the Koopas just like in the alternate timeline from Blue Collar. Mario Kart and Mario Sports happen.
If Yoshi saves the babies, the stork delivers the babies. To a second wrong couple. Mario grows up in the Mushroom Kingdom and lives peacefully until the Koopa King Bowser turns the citizens into bricks and kidnaps the princess. Mario saves her in Super Mario Bros. and is declared hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. Peach decides to bake Mario a cake in celebration. However, when he arrives at the castle, Peach isn't there. Well, she is, but Bowser imprisoned her. Mario saves her again in Super Mario 64. Time passes and two ambassadors from Beanbean Kingdom appear and take Peach's voice. The Bros. set out to stop them in Superstar Saga. Some time later, E. Gadd invents a time machine, setting Partners in Time in motion.
There's a split here that depends on whether or not the babies return home. In the Storied timeline, they do. Meanwhile, a Blorb epidemic breaks out, and Bowser eats a Vaccuum Shroom, causing the Bros. to end up inside Bowser during Bowser's Inside Story. They defeat Fawful (the person behind all this), and they later take a vacation to Pillo Island. However, Antasma tries to ruin their fun in Dream Team. Time skip to the Star Festival. Bowser kidnaps Peach again, and Mario must travel across several galaxies to save her, which he does, in Super Mario Galaxy. A reset of the universe at the end causes this timeline to be merged with the Action timeline, and 3D World happens.
oh reality, it's not for me and it makes me laugh oh, fantasy world and disney girls i'm coming back
This one is the same as the storied timeline up until Partners in Time. This time, the babies stay in the present with their grown-up versions of themselves.
As a side note, the babies' absence causes Wario and Waluigi to take the Marios' identities and become plumbers themselves. This leads to the Super Mario Bros. movie.
From this point on, the timeline focuses on Baby Mario and Baby Luigi. They grow and join the family business, as seen in Mario Clash. They live a nice life until Bowser mistakes Baby Mario for Mario and kidnaps him. Baby Luigi saves him and learns about geography in Mario is Missing! Baby Luigi saves Baby Mario and they later discover a time machine and learn about history.
The timeline splits. One timeline has the baby bros going to college and becoming doctors (which is put to good use in Dr. Mario), but we're focusing on the other one, where they take the time machine, and use it to travel back to Yoshi's Island (or Super Mario Advance 3). If they accidentally make Yoshi fail, a time paradox somehow causes Bowser to have a hotel chain in Hotel Mario. But Yoshi succeeds of course. The brothers then decide to live out adventures they didn't get to have. This spans the remakes shown near the end of the timeline. The minor differences are caused by the brothers meddling around and messing with time. Like in the Action timeline, Baby Mario failing in Super Mario Advance causes him to not wake up and to dream about Paper Mario (this time, the first two games).
It's during Super Mario 64 DS that the baby brothers realize how they messed up the timeline. They decide it's beyond fixing, and they grab several historic figures throughout Mario history and throw a party. A Mario Party. Time no longer moves due to the ridiculous amount of time travel and shit.
oh reality, it's not for me and it makes me laugh oh, fantasy world and disney girls i'm coming back
Now that last one is way too confusing for my tastes. However, this topic has been great so far with some interesting timelines. I just hate split timelines.
I definitely will not post my own timelines. I have none to post!
Yeah, time travel stories can cause that problem. I love PIT, OOT, and games with time travel, but they are nightmares when trying to place in a timeline.
Still, you did a good job trying to piece it all together.
I didn't create this. I just found it and adopted it (but with one slight tweak in that the original had lost levels and vs smb in place of super mario bros in the blue collar and storied timelines so as not to repeat games. i made them all super mario bros since theyre all basically the same story)
oh reality, it's not for me and it makes me laugh oh, fantasy world and disney girls i'm coming back
If I was forced to pick, probably Storied, since that one has my favorite Mario game, and it would probably be the one best suited for a movie franchise.
