Falcon Boy noticed all these comparisons! Check them out. I find this to be pretty shocking.
Cackletta - Shadow Queen (both possess someone heavily altering their appearance, both are revived by an assistant, like to use lightning)
X nauts - Shroobs (Aliens wanting to conquer the world)
Fawful - Dimentio (Talk weirdly and act like Light-hearted villains, both merge with a world ending artifact taking on the shape of a famillar character and they are opposite in the fact that one focus on magic while the other focus on technology)
And i guess Antasma - Count Bleck (both are vampire based, both didn't start out evil, both act like very joyful villains but have deeper motivations hinted than what it is shown and Antasma X color scheme might be a nod to Bleck)

They're also opposite in a way as well:
Cackletta is more action oriented while Shadow Queen sit on her palace (granted she was sealed most of the time), both also make a dragon which is the first boss of their respective game.
Shroobs are more invasive demolishing the kingdom while the X-nauts work more in the shadows.
Fawful is a technologically based villain, Dimentio rely more on magic.
Bleck is extremly powerful and never assist his allies while Antasma is weaker but rely more on various tricks and assist his allies. Also Bleck is betrayed when he is at his weakest while Tas is betrayed when he is at his strongest.
Dimentio also has a darker side to him when compared to Fawful. However, both love their own image since Dimentio wants to basically create his own worlds and rule while Fawful has statures everywhere.
True, but they ditched those forms by the time you fought them as the final boss. Well, Shadow Queen did. Thanks for clarifying, though. I suppose they all start out with the possession angle. Or some merging. Good point.
I also noticed most Paper Mario villains are more hidden and secret until later, while the Mario & Luigi villains attack from the start.
Well this may be true but the bigger bad in ML is often kept hidden, like how the cobalt star kept Elder Princess shroob inside or how Bowser betrayed Tas in the last minute. In fact only superstar saga plays the "main villain is the main villain the whole game" trope 1000% out of the four ML games
