It is just so spectacular. Amazing story, characters, music, everything. No matter how many times I play it, I always get the same sense of nostalgic happiness.
Anybody agree? Isn't this game one of Nintendo's finest?

I agree, if the next Paper Mario is like TTYD I will be happy. It had the perfect blend of dark story and fitting, Mario-esque characters, and IMO the best chapter sub-plots in the series. Not to mention an amazing finale (I wish the later Paper Mario games had all the characters you met in each world cheering you on. That was one of the best moments in Mario history)
It takes a lot for a Mario RPG to get referenced by a main game, and TTYD (along with its prequel) managed to achieve that.
Thousand Year Door is often seen as the magnum opus of Mario RPGs...its the Mario RPG thats closest to perfection Everything started to go downhill after that ....
I find that most Mario games age well. Mario Land 2 looks great even now despite being released on GameBoy, and Super Mario World was from the very start of the SNES era and still looks wonderful.
Some people say DKC did not age well, but I think it has aged very well.
If anything, early N64 games and PlayStation games aged the worst. The blocky characters and levels.
Yeah... Bubsy 3D and Superman 64 didn't even age badly. They were poor quality from the start. It makes sense though, big pixels and little colors ages much better than a bunch of triangles. The original Paper Mario aged very well, as far as I know.
Sorry if I'm bumping but... I have to add Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2: Explorers of Sky to the masterpiece list! It aged well, has an immensely deep plot, lots of stuff to do and it expands on almost everything. Also not everyone notices it afaik but some stuff the characters say or do is based on their Pokédex entries (such as Luxray hiding in the dark and striking, etc.) which is a fun way of nodding to the main series.
IMO Super Mario 64 aged horribly. I think Super Mario World and All-Stars SMB3 aged much better
Fun facts 'bout me: -I'm bisexual. -I am a huge Mario fan. Also Kingdom Hearts and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2: Explorers of Sky. -I am making fangames and original projects: check out Super Mario RPG: The Prism Stone in the Fan Creations forum! -I have Asperger's Syndrome. -I am shy but I am friendly and don't dislike others for no reason.
