In my opinion, this game is a masterpiece.

I agree, if the next Paper Mario is like TTYD I will be happy. It had the perfect blend of dark story and fitting, Mario-esque characters, and IMO the best chapter sub-plots in the series. Not to mention an amazing finale (I wish the later Paper Mario games had all the characters you met in each world cheering you on. That was one of the best moments in Mario history)

It takes a lot for a Mario RPG to get referenced by a main game, and TTYD (along with its prequel) managed to achieve that.

I always felt Thousand-Year Door was made just for me. It includes all of my favorite settings.

Spooky chapter, pirate chapter, wrestling chapter, space chapter, castle chapter.

The game was perfect from start to finish.

I liked SPM the most, but even I agree Thousand-Year Door was the perfect formula for the series.

Another thing that made Thousand-Year Door so great is that it mixed the traditional enemies from Paper Mario with original ideas like those from SPM.

We ended up with Twilight Town and new characters and species, but we also got Toads and Goombas.

What is your order for the prime series?

Metroid Prime 2 > Metroid Prime > Metroid Prime 3

We always do this around here. All topics turn into multiple topics. That is just how we are and there is no point trying to fix it.

Thousand-Year Door is still great even now. Its graphical style keeps it from ever being outdated.

Metroid Prime and EarthBound aged well too, which is why they're still quite popular today. Prime's graphics still impress me.

In fact the only Mario RPG I can think of that didn't age that well was SuperStar Saga, and that was to a lesser extent than many other games.

Yeah... Bubsy 3D and Superman 64 didn't even age badly. They were poor quality from the start. It makes sense though, big pixels and little colors ages much better than a bunch of triangles. The original Paper Mario aged very well, as far as I know.

I have to add Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2: Explorers of Sky to the masterpiece list!
It aged well, has an immensely deep plot, lots of stuff to do and it expands on almost everything. Also not everyone notices it afaik but some stuff the characters say or do is based on their Pokédex entries (such as Luxray hiding in the dark and striking, etc.) which is a fun way of nodding to the main series.

IMO Super Mario 64 aged horribly. I think Super Mario World and All-Stars SMB3 aged much better
