We all here on boards enjoy Nintendo. But as we have noticed Nintendo isnt as creative as before. Its a shame but I want to talk about the reasons
1. It isnt "needed"as much as before.
Back in the 80's and even 90's videogames were new. And Nintendo was still new into games . They didnt have instruction booklet how to make games and did have to make the rules themselves. Thanks to Nintendo games many genres were born (like adventure games were born thanksbto zelda or SRPGs thanks to fire emblem) Or became popular (many mon catching games werr before and after Pojemon but Pokemon was the big thing
Nowadays tho gaming industry is huge. There are many genres and many ways to do games so its hard to be purely origibal and innovative
2. Theyre playing safe and not risking
The obvious one. They are doing games that are popular (Mario Pokemon etc) or requested (mahora 3ds port, star fox thats sinilar to originals etc.) And usually when they are risking by doing something new it results in backlash or flop. Think of Metroid fedration force. Thought of the metroid fanboys rage enough. Good. But if you need more (and better)examples let me tell you
The last creative (100% creative) era was the early/mid 2000's . Then Nintendo didsome new IPs and also tried to do something new with their old IPs. These experiments with old IPs were mixed. Some of them (like Metroid Prime) got praise while others (like Luigis Mansion and Windwaker) got criticsm back then. While some of the new IPs got popular the only obes that come to stat were Animal crossing and Pikmin. Others faded to obscurity. Even the bacj then popular golden sun and the moderately (in japan) popular Densetsu no Stafy series faded into obscurity. Some of the new IPs flopped because they came at bad time (looking at chibi robo or drill dozer)
While Wii and Ds were quite innovative (altho gimmivky) consoles we slowly became into an era of rehashing. On this era we got next to no new IPs and some IPs that were popular in gc/GBA era slowly faded away (golden sun and starfy and wario land to name a few). Some more experimental games like SPM got flack.
Around 2010-2012 we lived dark times. There were flicks of light like Kid Icarus rwvival or Xenoblade. But sadly mostly it wss dark. All the new stuff was weird Eshop games. Slowly but surely we started to break from it. Pikmin got first game in ages and Fire emblem awakened into casual players (pun 10000% intended) . We even got new IPs most succseful being Splatoon. We live quite good age. Yet it feels as Nintendo doesnt take risls. And why? Because theyre acompany a company has to make money. And let me tell you about a risk that kinda failed
At one ppint Nintendo wanted to make a new IP that was kinda like smash expect a co-operative action game. The developers at platinium were what if we make a new IP instead. And thus the wondwrful 101 was made. Sadly the ip flopped...altho the game has its fanbase and I could see it become the earthbound of this generation
I think that with risks that Nintendo makes either sucseed (Splatoon, caprain toad, kid icarus uprising) or fail (the aftor mentoined w101,codename s.t.e.a.m.) .should Nintendo make more risks? Maybe. But do fans want it. Or do we want or favorite neglected IPS back and as good as its magnum opus was
