I can't really think of anything, I liked Dream Team more than most people. I would say that they could've made the Pi'illDUMB X and after easier/lower leveled, or at least make the grinding quicker and funner.
Antasma could have been better. He was meh at best tbh...i only like him because of the Ogura similarities
One of the reasons I bought the game was because I thought he looked like Cackletta. Also because it's another Mario RPG game and I loved the first three.
Giant battles are trial and error, but I feel that an emphasis on the gyroscope and stylus controls is a horrible way to go with the series.
I want all of those removed. Giant battles can be cool, but make them a little more forgiving. At this point you basically have to be perfect from the start with little time to adapt.
Giant battles were some of the coolest parts, IMO. One reason being that you don't have to grind to beat them, you just need skill. It's far different from those simple regular boss battles, which are usually basic enemies with higher stats.
Trial and error is hardly skill. They do need to spice up the bosses, though.
Also, what is this about grinding? You mentioned grinding, but then called the bosses easy. If you grind of course they would be easy, but I never had to grind at all.
Did I call all of the bosses easy? I don't remember. But either way, I mean that if you can't beat a regular boss you might just have to go back and grind. But if you can't beat a giant boss then listen to Cranky.
Giant battles just mean scribbling on your 3DS and recognizing patterns. No skill. Same can be said for learning to dodge in regular battles, though. I do not consider much skill in these games. These are among the easiest RPGs, after all and for kids.
If you're a DT fan and sensitive to negative stuff then skip this post it might get a bit rough.
Ahem.
A lot. Big Massif and his lackeys in the Dreamy Wakeport are completely unfair until you recognize what you gotta do against them. The Somnom Woods guardian robot boss is just completely illogical IMO and somehow I had no idea what to do even when trying out different strategies like killing the smaller enemies it spawns (which just come back immediately after a turn or 2) and I eventually used Easy Mode.
Giant Battles are either too easy or too hard (like Zeekeeper). Fun nonetheless (and pretty awesome to see Luigi do what he does after being ''player 2'' for years), but I would personally have done it a bit differently.
Gyroscope controls would easily be a game killer for people who are seasick etc (I'm not luckily, so I'm not 100% sure, but it could be) especially the zeekeeper fight with all those flashy colors etc.
Speaking of colors, sometimes it feels like one big color fest, no offense. Does Dreamy Bowser really have to be made of rainbows?
The Elite Trio fight was terribly annoying to me. Why force you to kill them all in one go? Why not make a fun and quirky bossfight like they did with Popple and Rookie in SSS?
Popple seems to be a complete sociopath and lost all his cute/endearing/redeeming traits he had in SSS. Also, I agree on the Midbus rookie thing.
Also (a bit more minor), we've got this whole dream world stuff. Where is Subcon? (american SMB2). Wart? Mouser? Clawgrip? Birdo? Tryclyde? Anyone? They would have been so awesome xD
OR WART, MOUSER OR ANOTHER SMB2 CHARACTER AS POPPLE'S ROOKIE xD
Bottomline,
I hope I didn't offend any DT fans, this game is not bad, thats not what I'm saying. Antasma was pretty cool and I think this game has my favorite portrayal of Bowser to date, and the dream world mechanics are pretty fun. I just think Nintendo missed a lot of opportunities here. It's probably my least fave M&LRPG but I dont hate it.
Fun facts 'bout me: -I'm bisexual. -I am a huge Mario fan. Also Kingdom Hearts and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2: Explorers of Sky. -I am making fangames and original projects: check out Super Mario RPG: The Prism Stone in the Fan Creations forum! -I have Asperger's Syndrome. -I am shy but I am friendly and don't dislike others for no reason.
I love bosses that require all members to be defeated at once, so Elite Trio was pretty awesome for more.
I have always said that people with motor skill issues or other problems would find gyroscope and touch screen controls hard to play and I find that to be pretty sad. I hope they tone those down in the next game. I also hope we never see giant battles again, even if they do feel pretty epic at times.

I actually have motor issues (mainly slow reaction speed; I have issues with attacks that require you to press buttons very fast like Bowser's inhale in BiS too), so that's part of my hate. Also I don't mind the giant battles but I wish it were more 'bout skills than tapping buttons etc.

Same here. I have motor skill issues too. It sucks for games that require the stylus. I tend to scribble and slash like a maniac. I scare people and end up alienating everyone around me with my 3DS awesomeness.

In my fangame I wanted to have a giant battle in Subcon actually, but have it rely on a modified normal battle system instead of the skill system. IMO that'd fix the whole bull. But any opinions on that?
I hope the next M&L WILL have giant battles, but like I put it here. Giant Wario would be epic.
A giant sociopath blowing up everything in his path for some treasure.
Epic xD

I think that is a great idea. Giant battles are epic and have potential to be refreshing if they have some tweaks.
I do not think Wario is a sociopath. Greedy and self-centered yes, but still ready to help when needed.
I agree. I was more aiming at the ruthless side of him he shows when fighting enemies etc. I think he might be a narcissist (as those are sorta less bad and have redeeming traits) but yeah. (IMO the Mario Sociopath theory is total BS tho)
Thanks btw!

No doubt Wario looks out for himself first and is greedy, though.
Mario Sociopath Theory?
That Game Theory thing where Mario is made up to be a sociopath.

I think i once told you about the theory once rain
Well u think the reason the theory is popular is because of the "toads turned into blocks" thingy
Is that even canon? It was the first game so the timeline is probably changed a lot.
Also it was in the instruction booklet right? I personally only consider things canon if the devs outright state it, it's shown in the games and it's consistent in all supplementary material.
Also it probably doesn't take a genius to presume that the spell is reverted after Bowser's defeat. That always literally always happens in Mario games afaik. Kamek's spells wear off if you beat him afaik, the false Bowsers get reverted if you beat them, and magic-based status ailments (debuffs, buffs, etc) are temporary so what? Also why are there blocks in the Yoshi Series and PiT?
EDIT: Even if it is canon then is it evil? I mean, Mario is basically a ''rebel'' or ''resistance'' fighting against the invading koopa kingdom/villain, and for one man to defeat an evil kingdom he needs the weapons he can get right? (the mushrooms, fireflowers etc cause there's no guns afaik). It's a sort of war after all (or, the aftermath of a war). Is it more evil to keep those toads trapped forever and not do anything and let the koopa kingdom overrun your country, or sacrifice a few men to save a thousand men? Just to name an example. who knows, maybe Mario was actually very morally conflicted whenever he had to make those sacrifices, but adding lots of internal monologues just doesnt fit in Mario.
EDIT 2: Maybe I'm getting too fired up but I sorta feel Game Theory ruined my childhood with this stuff.

Would rather go to Waffle Kingdom than this Mushroom crap.

Bas, Mario has no established canon, but the closest thing I have to say is that it's in no way official and it's recognized nor endorsed by Nintendo (bless them), so you can safely ignore Game Theory's pathetic existence. And no, it's not evil. Mario does what he does best, by knocking away everything that's in his face. Keep in mind, these creatures are out to kill Mario, even the mindless ones like Goombas and Wigglers and Para-Beetles. No, they're not "minding their own business", they're out to kill him. Check out Porcupuffers, Fire Chomps, Deep Cheeps, Chain Chomps, Thwomps, Hammer Bros., and many others, they're all after Mario. What would you do if monsters are after you? You grab a gun (Mario has actually done this in officially-recognized media that isn't Yoshi's Safari) and you kill them. Are hikers that saved their lives by killing a bear evil? No.
If you Mario is a sociopath, then look at Koopa Troopa's winning trophy cutscene in Mario Power Tennis. He shows horror and empathy to Luigi by rushing to Luigi's aid when Luigi trips and falls. When Donkey Kong loses in Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Mario shows forgiveness by giving Donkey Kong a free toy. And Mario cheers up Bowser in Mario Party DS.
