It may sound ridiculous, but it seems like a possibility.
This thread will contain massive spoilers, of course, for a game over a decade old...
But, with Bowser forgetting his identity and becoming Rookie for part of the game, it seems possible that someone as crazy as Fawful would have something similar happening to him.
Also, that would mean Fawful was in Dream Team and I'd love that.

They both had a role in sss. And while its true that they never appeared in same scene how could Fawful siddenly have amnesia at some points and then remember everything at others

One hole? Pretty sure Fawful died in Bowser's Inside Story so that would mean, if you're theory is true, Popple would have too.

And I'm not sure if that entirely rules out the possibility, Hoopa. He could be constantly switching between Fawful and Popple.

That IS a major problem... I'd say that the games may not take place in a linear timeline, (Which they definitely don't) but that might be a bit ridiculous.

Well, Paper Mario would be in a seperate world, Mario RPG would take place at the beginning, Superstar Saga second, then there have to be 2 universes with Partners in Time, it continues with the baby timeline into Dream Team then Inside Story.

I love theory threads.

They are the same species, but I say no to this theory. However, it would be cool to have a Ms. Mowz like situation where a character masquerades as another character at times.

They do both distinct ways of speaking, and Popple does show some rage at points.

Still, I do not see it. Popple is far too coherent, but multiple personalities could explain that away, I suppose.

In any case, interesting theory.

I don't think so, but i think Popple & Fawful come from the same subspecies/cast along with the Beanbean Queen (they have all the same huge toothy smile, wierd speech manners and five fingers)

Which mean there is probably a bunch of Fawful-like characters that we have yet to see

Yeah but it seem too farfetched, i'm not buying it, they kinda act like that because they are of the same subspecies not some kind of split-personality.

And Fawful was reduced to a blob of dark energy, now way he could come back some Popple-like form.

My theory on what happened to Fawful is that he actually died for real.

However, my Mario timeline puts the first four M&L games right before Super Mario Galaxy. At the end of that game, the universe is reset, and according to my timeline, the reset erases the events of the Mario & Luigi games as well as Yoshi's Island DS and Super Mario 64. Everyone is moved to an intersecting timeline.

Fawful never met Mario and he and Cackletta are still alive in the Beanbean Kingdom.
