Would it be cool if Nintendo released M&L1-3 as a HD collection on the Wii U, with updated hi-res graphics, fixes and improvements and extra secret bosses and side quests and stuff etc? (possibly existing characters like Donkey Kong, Wario, some PM/SMRPG characters)
Not saying it will ever happen (I think not) but would it be cool?

It had to be an overhaul of the design of the game. What do you mean "hi-res graphics"? That would mean essentially overhauling the entire game, starting with sprites. Remember, the first game is displayed in low-res GBA screens. To convert it into HD would mean higher resolution sprites and reworking map layouts and all. Same thing for the previous games. I'd like more content, though, and still, a graphical overhaul sounds nice. I don't think it's plausible at this point, though, although maybe we can get a Super Mario All-Star esque collection of Mario & Luigi games. I don't expect HD graphics, though, but if we do get some really nice looking sprites which resemble something like Wario Land: Shake It!!, no doubt the effort would be worth it.
I doubt characters such as Donkey Kong and Wario would be added. The remakes would just have other things and perhaps more original characters, but that's not a very exciting prospect for me.

I would love this. Most likely won't happen, but I'd like it nonetheless. Ideally it would look more like HD Dream Team in terms of graphics, with the sprites resembling this HD version of Antasma I made:
Though Nintendo and Alpha Dream could almost definitely improve that with more detail, etc. I'd absolutely love to see an official hi-res 3D-like Fawful sprite. And to see the Beanbean Kingdom in Mario Kart 8/3D World style graphics... man.
I hate HD Collections. I definitely do not want the graphics and style changed. I love BIS for its sprites, and I like the previous styles. Each game has a unique style. I would hope they never mess with that aspect.
Think about if Super Mario Bros. 3 was given Sunshine graphics. The charm would die.

Super Mario Bros. 3 with suddenly Sunshine graphics? Eh, that would look ridiculous. It would probably look more like New Super Mario Bros. to be honest.
Oh, and if they're going to make HD sprites, they should probably take advantage of vector graphics (which the custom Antasma reminds me of).

Some of the gradients were done in Inkscape, but complicated ones that go in and out of a color repeatedly (like on his head-spikes, the lighter portion of which is entirely one object that goes under the darker portion) I wasn't sure how to implement without using multiple objects, and if I did that I wouldn't be able to smoothly transition the gradients as easily, so I opted to just shade in Photoshop.
Ahh some great responses!! I personally thing a SM-All Stars collection would be cool.

I was refering to the seakirbies aka Densetsu no stafy
Well, it might also introduce the Seakirbies to a new audience (and Seakirbies has a smaller following than Mario RPGs), so that's actually a good thing.
Exactly. I mean we got the fifth one but that doesnt really count for multiple ressons (first off we europeans never got a stafy game, second americans only got the fifth and finally it was like the weakest of the series) so i really hope for a collection . Especially for the original gba trilogy
And yrah the stafy series has a really REALLY small fanbase. Like outside japan there may be like ...10 fans ?? (Myself included btw

Oh yeah, that's more the reason to promote Seakirbies. I'm sure it can have a bigger following if Ninty paid attention to them for a bit. You know, Kid Icarus got a revival somewhat, why not the Seakirbies?
Exactly. The stafy series was moderatelybig in Japan and I think the main reason it didnt become something was because NOA didnt export it. I think it could have become a moderate hit here. Either that or wishful thinking
I feel that way about many more obscure Nintendo IPs tbh... i just wish Ninty could give these attention
Another good example is MOTHER. No it didnt get revival but its a beloved cult classic with an insane and dedicated fanbase

Didn't it have a recent Earthbound promotion, though? It's still pretty niche, but Nintendo hasn't abandoned it.
Huh?

I would love to see a game like this game. Heck, I would love to see Superstar Saga with Dream Team quality graphics in general, because that game desperately needs a remake of some sort.
But you know what I'd want from this?
Added mini games, battle ring, etc in the first two games. Imagine how cool it'd be to have a Battle Ring for Superstar Saga or Partners in Time, as a way to quickly replay boss battles? It'd be even better with a bonus boss at the end, maybe taken from another Mario RPG type game. Or even a giant battle mode, with optional new giant battles akin to those in Bowser's Inside Story or Dream Team (except with bean or shroob style opponents). Add some sort of music orchestration as well, and it'd be amazing.

Battle Ring sounds neat. I'd like to take my Mario and Luigi with their kind-of ridiculous stats (like Luigi has 999 HP) and see how that fares. I suppose adding more sidequests wouldn't hurt either.
You know, I honestly like the pixelated graphics from M&L 1-3. I like black outlines. They make it so much smoother and easier, more compatible with backgrounds. M&L 4 had it's own special graphical charm.
I'd rather Nintendo make new games rather than recreate old ones anyway. Although I wouldn't mind having 'em...

The grayish artifacts on the edges of the sprites make them look hideous against a dark background, kind of like a bad transparency-removal job. I like Dream Team's style the most.

Well, Playstation is doing that "Remastering" stuff, and special editions of certain games of Playstation (and in the possitive way to see it, because they wanted to give all the best experience to their new console of their best games without many Bugs or changing things it can better the experience of their games to the players, and also money for the online servers...) So..¿Why Nintendo no?... Besides, maybe for those childs and people who weren´t on the time of the firsts two of the Mario&Luigi games in order to play them, they´ll have a chance.

So do the other companies. Doesn't stop them offering HD remasters and remakes.
Of course, if Nintendo did do a remake, I'd rather it be a significant, interesting one to your usual 'remaster' crap. Like how the Pokemon games got massive remakes with tons of new contenr and mechanics, or how Super Mario 64 got remade into Super Mario 64 DS.
