From Paper Mario, the story and overall "feel". I think I've been giving Sticker Star a bit too much credit. I don't mind the Bowser kidnaps Peach story, but Sticker Star felt pretty barren and linear (as did Super Paper Mario albeit to a slightly lesser extent). I can't explain it, but the first game had more of a "soul", and I would like a similar feel in this game.
From Thousand Year Door, the battle system and diversity. Despite being similar to the first game's, TTYD's battle system has a few differences that I like. As for diversity, I mean that TTYD's worlds and characters were very unique and I liked that. My favorite level was probably that weird shadow town where everyone turned into pigs.
From Super Paper Mario, the ability to play as other characters besides Mario. For the flak I give that game, this was a terrific idea. I'd probably want Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Yoshi.
From Sticker Star, the visuals, the paperyness, and how it brought characters from the main series. The graphics were lovely and they updated the character designs (although strangely not Bowser). I'd want all that good paper related stuff (no sticker bs, though). And finally, I'd want more characters from the main series. I don't just mean individual characters, but species for NPCs too (I don't just want a bunch of Toads this time around).

I'd rather the story be similar to TTYD or SPM than PM64, it worked in that game because it was a long time ago, but the "Bowser kidnaps Peach" plot has gotten old now. But I won't complain as long as there are original characters (more than one, preferably they are also likable)
I harped on original characters before, but I for sure wouldn't mind them one bit. I love a lot of the partners and bosses from the early titles. My only complaint is they're just kinda tossed away after one game. If this one has original bosses, I hope to see more of them.
I mean really, Goomba King appeared in Mario 64 DS, so there's no excuse for not having say, Tutankoopa in 3D World.
