Given it's on the Wii U, there are only two possibilities:
1. They'll realise Wii U games sell like crap regardless of their quality. I mean, even Mario sells at most half what it did on the Wii when it's on the Wii U.
2. It's getting canned. Bit like poor Metroid after Federation Force and Chibi Robo after Zip Lash.
I do think they realise how much backlash these games are getting for less originality though, and with each game going further and further back to the franchise's routes, it's likely the next one might actually have quite a few new and original characters and story ideas again.

I don't think they willl just ditch the series. For the next game unless intelligent systems has wised up, I'm pretty certain it will be a color splash sequel.

Why's that? It didn't say or show Heuy being alive just that the bucket could just be just leftovers. Hinting at the fact that he's dead or at least his spirit isn't among them anymore, if the paint Stars do restore the bucket it probably won't be Heuy but more like Huey 2.0.

It's supposed to be a reference on how when people die in real life and you just couldn't say that they're dead. People would say to their friends or family that they "Kicked the bucket!" that was probably what FTG64 was trying to say when he meant that scene pissed him off the most.[\spoiler]
Been a fan of the Paper Mario series ever since I started playing Super Paper Mario for the Wii... No joke! XD I saw a few ads and commercials about the Paper Mario series. But I didn't start playing them for the story until I played the third game in the series. Ever since then? Many games of 2016 have come and challenge what we consider as story driven games now. UnderTale and recently FNAF's World. I hope that someday I can create my own game based upon the Paper Mario series and pay tribute.
It's very mixed. Love some of the graphics, the soundtrack and the puzzle design. Absolutely hated the combat and some of the worse level design choices, like in the Violet Passage.
And I'm also now at the final boss! Just need the courage to actually face Bowser now!
