I didn't think I'd be announcing something like this so soon. Usually, I wait until near the end of the year to do something like this. However, present "circumstances", plus an inspiring vacation, have spurred me to action.
What am I talking about? Well, as readers of the three ported fan-game topics may remember, at the end of the Paper Jam Recut topic, I made a vow. This vow assured people my next fan-game topic would debut on this site.
At first, one would be inclined to think this is yet another Recut topic. I must politely let people down, though- I have no intention of giving Color Splash any attention even after release, other than this sentence explaining just that. In addition, the way I see it, Color Splash is just a "de-cut" of Relic Hunter- in other words, I practically already did it.
So then, if not another Recut, what do I have up my sleeves?
Oh...something like this.

As with Relic Hunter before it, Paper Mario: Wonder Journey aims to give fans an experience that (frankly) Nintendo should have been giving them. Detailed story (one that hearkens back to not just Paper Mario's roots, but the roots of classic literary storytelling and art in general)? New species? De-emphasizing Toads? Some story themes that parallel the actual franchise's state? It'll all be there.
In addition, to achieve true verisimilitude (ie. a game Nintendo actually could make with the standard budget, schedule and staff) as well as satisfy individuals who may be growing irate at the scope of fan projects, this one will actually take some numeric details about the previous Paper Marios (average number of enemies, palette swaps, field abilities) into account.
Finally, despite being a complete fabrication, I might include faked screenshots like with the Recut topics.
That said, while some story details have been locked down (including the rejiggered battle system, major story developments, and how the topic connects with official Mario RPGs and the DMZ canon) I have a single question. Namely...is there anything fans would like to see in a post-2012 Paper Mario game? While I can't promise anything, I could squeeze some stuff in.
Expect this topic to officially begin on June 4th, 2016.
