And then he mentioned that Nintendo advertised Paper Jam in cinemas. Yes, they bought out a ton of ad slots for a game which barely broke 300,000 copies. And marketed it to hell anyway.
Anyone now slightly worried for this series? Cause damn, I suspect Nintendo lost a fortune on this game given how poorly it sold. And if they act like they did with other franchises that did poorly, I worry that Mario & Luigi might now be only a tiny bit less doomed than Paper Mario is inevitably going to be with Color Splash. I mean, I hope they think 'oh, this game failed because of boring ideas, let's be original again', but part of me worries that they'll get the wrong message.
Or will screw up the Mario & Luigi series again, see it fail hard again and basically think Mario RPGs are a dead concept.

Idk but yeah i've noticed Paper Jam got marketed alot.
Could be because of the crossover nature of the game or maybe because Nintendo really love their Sticker Star elements
But if anything the Paper Jam's Miiting seem to hint that AlphaDream wanted to do something more grand (with probably OCs and nice story) but couldn't because it ended up as a mess, so they went the safe way (OCs were removed not because of Nintendo pressuring them but rather because they felt it wouldn't work well with their "real world Mario characters meeting their Paper counterparts" idea)
Alphadream seem to have more control over M&L through (considering how they didn't allow Nintendo to meddle with Dream Team) and they listen to the criticism alot more...
So hopefully M&L will go back to normal next installement (specially that even Color Splash developpers mentionned that players should look up to M&L if they want an experience closer to the classic Mario RPGs which imply that Nintendo want M&L to become the only Mario RPG series while Paper Mario turn into more experimental styles)

Mario RPGs are NOT a dead concept, i think the Paper Mario series is dying due to Sticker Star and Color Splash...
RIP Paper Mario 2000/2001-2012 or 2016...
At least AlphaDream still makes good Mario & Luigi RPG games like Superstar Saga, Partners in Time, Bowser's Inside Story, Dream Team and even Paper Jam.
As far as I know, Alphadream answered some questions on the paper jam miiverse page where they said that the next game will have an original cast again with an original villian and stuff

This direction is only as long as Kensuke Tanabe & Taro Kudo are in charge and refuse to truly change their ways. We just have to hope Nintendo gives the reins of the series to someone more ambitious within the company. Like Super Mario Galaxy's director.

True, bring back Kawade and remove Tanabe from the direction and Paper Mario's quality should increase (Tanabe is behind most of questionable changes of PM and Kawade was the one who directed the first 3 PMs)
As for AD, yeah they did imply the NSMBification was a one time thing because of the crossover nature of the game, next M&L should be more traditional (especially since PJ is one of their worst selling M&L so far)

Yeah well, M&L: PJ has low sales, but it's not the worst selling game so far, it has to be Sonic Boom (3DS & Wii U), at least both Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario 64, Superstar Saga, PM:TTYD, Partners in Time, Super Paper Mario, Bowser's Inside Story, Dream Team and Paper Jam are RPGs, am i right?

I consider SPM an action RPG. You still level up and there's an RPG worthy plot. Plus you have a party in the form of Peach, Bowser Luigi and the Pixls.
well I actually don't think Paper Jam was a bad game (infact, I loved it a lot) but I can see why people are worried, and I think the next M&L game should go back to what it was again; as in what made SSS, PiT, BiS so great in the first place- it's sheer creativity, original and quirky NPCs, humorous plot with Nightmare Fuel thrown in here and there, enjoyable dialogue and original worlds that are a joy to explore.

I don't know what to say,Paper Mario Sticker Star was bad,but Color Splash was a good game...there are 2 possibilities: 1)To return to the cool and amazing old style 2)To continue with actual style and make more and more Toads.Something like:Is year 2026,Nintendo release a new Paper Mario. There ate so much Toads, but what's that the enemies are Toads!!!And Princes it's Toad! And Bowser!Wait and Mario it's a Toad too!!!.The game it's called Paper Toad!!!
IfNintendo will don't do anything, that's will be the future of the Paper Mario series...
