I've always believed to that Antasma was never goung to betray Bowser, since he was very sincere to Bowser, giving him all he wants. Until I read the wikipedia, it said that Antasma was later soon going to turn on Bowser but he already caught on his plans which led him to betray Antasma. But then again, I know the saying to not trust wikipedias even though some of them are actually well written and accurate.
I'm still not even 50% sure on this. If Antasma were to turn on Bowser, wouldn't he have already? Considering them two both, wielded the Dream Stone?
But still, isn't Antasma some corrupted evil bat that feeds on the nightmares of innocents along with having bad parents? I don't get it.

I think Antasma originally sought to rule the world, but he wasn't the type to lead on another with similar goals only to ditch him in the end. So when Bowser also expressed interest in world domination, Antasma decided to be nice and allow Bowser his wish, in return for Antasma simply having the freedom to do whatever he wants. I also think one of the reasons Bowser betrayed Antasma is because Bowser had been played by so many other villains before then that he probably was hesitant to completely trust Antasma.
Also where did you get that bit about Antasma having bad parents? Pretty sure his family was never mentioned or alluded to.
It's a more methaphorical quote, basically it explain that Antasma's evil come from the facts his evil was born out of corruption (eating nightmares) and gained a kind of cunning evil as a result.
He is evil because he is a corrupted and cunning being
I don't think we really know his parents, in fact i'm not even sure he is native from the island since there is no bat or bat-like characters in the game unlike previous games which showed that each big bads belonged to a species seen ingame (Cackletta & Fawful = Beanbean, Princess Shroob = Shroobs, Dark Star = Stars)
As for the thread, i mentionned that he had several occasions of getting rid of Bowser (Ex: he could have used the Dream Stone to wish Bowser away instead of giving him a castle) but never did, so either he didn't want to betray him or he was too stupid to not get rid of him quickly.
