I really love it but it's in no way BIS or SS quality IMO. First of all the time travel concept could've been so much more, imagine your actions in the past affecting the present or something (like how in BIS the outside of Bowser's body affects the inside), and the Shroobs could have had much more personality.
That said, it's a pretty great game nonetheless :-)
In fact, I think Dream Team is my least favorite of the current 4 games tbh. Idk why, it seems a bit overblown to me and the Somnom Woods boss seemed completely unfair to me. Also Dreamy Big Massif and his lackeys... Ugh.
Fun facts 'bout me: -I'm bisexual. -I am a huge Mario fan. Also Kingdom Hearts and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2: Explorers of Sky. -I am making fangames and original projects: check out Super Mario RPG: The Prism Stone in the Fan Creations forum! -I have Asperger's Syndrome. -I am shy but I am friendly and don't dislike others for no reason.
I think the Shroobs were supposed to have little personality to show how militant their race truly is and how they do not value individuality. Although, Princess Shroob and Brat could have a little more personality.
I would have loved if past actions affected the future, but oh well. We got to see a young E. Gadd! ^_^
Well I personally kinda wished we got more of smithy (I even made a topic about the subject once) but then again he was supposed to be a behind the scenes villain
Wart is the most wasted villain IMO. In DT (which is also about dreams just like American SMB2) he'd have been awesome. Also he'd fit perfectly in Paper Mario IMO.
Maybe Nintendo let him and the SMB2 crew go cause SMB2 wasn't supposed to be in the first place? (The lost levels was gonna be SMB2 I mean but got rejected) Either way they should make a reappearance somewhere.

I always forget that Captain Syrup exists. Says enough, IMO. IMO there should be a new Mario game with Wario (and Syrup) in it, sorta like SM64DS, except Wario and possibly Waluigi also have their own ordeal etc instead of just helping Mario out for their own gain. Wario was epic to play as in SM64DS cause his abilities and playing style sorta reflect him being more ruthless and sociopathic, which really worked well!

So, not sure if the main topic is still being discussed here, but I really liked Mario & Luigi Partners in Time myself. Does it live up to the rest? No, not really. But the darker storyline was pretty cool (Shroobs using Toads as fuel? That's creepy for a Mario game), the music was excellent and I enjoyed the actual gameplay, combat, etc. Just wish it was less linear and that you could explore both time periods to the fullest degree, like in the later games. Imagine being able to go between an intact Toad Town in the future to a destroyed one in the past... or vice versa. That would have been awesome.
Wario fan, Mario game modder and interested in every Mario RPG you can imagine!
I also run Wario Forums, which is a place to discuss the Wario Land and WarioWare franchises.
Would rather go to Waffle Kingdom than this Mushroom crap.

Of course, going off-topic is kind of... a schtick in this forum? Oh well, don't mind posting on-topic, you won't get slapped here.
I think the plot in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time is also pretty ridiculous if you think about it, but time travel plots are often messed up in their own ways. I think Partners in Time is a special kind of messed up breed, though..
We are awful at staying on topic. I still love Partners in Time, I can't decide whether it's better or worse than Dream Team... (DT is my 'second' favorite M&L)
Topics are always open to discussion, on topic and off. We do both. Do not feel bad about either. That's how we roll now. We better a closer forum this way by discussing a wide range of topics.
Xan, I think they just possessed Quadraxis and had him guard the Hive. No cloning involved. You see various parts of robots in the Light World, but that is not Quadraxis.
As for the topic, I still believe PIT had the best final boss theme of them all. The music overall was strong. Especially around the Star Shrine and Volcano.
I really liked this game it has a cool story, the soulless Shoobs give a sort of horror vibe, music was good especially that final battle, Battles went smoothly more so then the original game. The challenge was just right and I love how each boss had there unique set up and gimmick. However, what I don't like was Hp of the bosses is a bit too high, how broken the Bro items where, and the button setup. What I mean by that is how I identify bros with color so I instinctively color code bro with button but since two of the buttons and bro where the same color I end up screwing up a lot duo my finger wanting push A when I see red or B when I see green.
I'm glad it was fix with BIS but had they did something different with kids as for the commands I would be a lot better.
The Shroobs were also the most intelligent and organized species with advanced technology and units spread out. They were a military force. I liked that aspect.
Fawful was smart, but the Shroobs also had the numbers.

-looks at first post in topic- Wait, I thought PIT was well received? Where did this negative reception come from?
But anyway, I'll answer the question in the title.
(there's a "short answer" at the bottom of my post if you don't have the time to read all of this right now) I like the game for what it is. I love sci fi and many of it's concepts, time travel being no exception. When I heard that my two favorite things were coming together, I got really excited for the game. So when I played it for the first time(I really forget when, it's been what, 11 years since the game was released? somewhere in that time frame), I of course enjoyed it. But however, I hadn't really grasped the concept of an "RPG" yet. I mean, I knew how to attack and counter, but I used to hate fighting enemies, so I would skip them as much as possible, which caused me many difficulties later game, especially at bosses.
When I got frustrated at a boss I couldn't beat, I pretty much just started a new game, thinking I did something wrong, but I wasn't doing the right thing. Because of this, I have the early parts of PIT and many other game's early parts memorized, because I played through them so much.
I believe I started to play the game properly, I dunno... 2012? When I decided to return to the game, and had experience with many RPG's now. I decided to essentially kill every enemy I saw, to get many experience points to have an easier time fighting. Something I also noticed in the game, concerning levels, is that Luigi starts off considerably slower than Mario. He's so much slower, that the attack order early game goes Mario -> Enemy -> Luigi. I don't understand why they did it, so if you want Luigi to attack before the enemies, you'll have to spend your extra level points into speed.
Anyway, at that point, the game became much more easier and more enjoyable for me. I got to go to different places in the past, I learned new techniques, and I got stronger. Then, well, I beat the game. Many times, in fact, even if the final boss is very difficult to kill. But that just makes it more fun and challenging for me.
I think Nintendo could've thought harder of the story and patch up a few holes, though. Time travel works wonders as a story... If you execute it right. I don't really blame them, since time travel in general is a touchy subject and very difficult to understand at times. If the baby bros. ever get more experience points than the adult bros, then that's a time paradox there already. How do you lose experience? I also think that when the babies travel forward in time, it should've created an alternate timeline were they were never there to grow up, hence the adult bros could not exist. And if the baby bros ever died during the game(which is totally possible in alternate universes of the game!) the adult counterparts will also cease to exist. There might be a few more things that I'm not mentioning atm, but it's kinda late for me(and by extension I'm tired), so please excuse me for that, lol.
Short answer, aka TL;DR: I like the game, and will for a very long time, since it has a sort of long history with me.
