So helloo. Lets continue the christmas calendar. and todays franchise is Fire Emblem: the fantasy tactical RPG developed by Intelligent Systems: the studio behind Paper Mario and Famicom wars
Fire Emblem is an interesting case. Originally being a pretty unknown series which only got released in Japan but is nowadays a pretty popular franchise with a semi big fanbase. The series got localized by including the two characters Roy and Marth in super smash bros melee. Interestingly they were originally planned to be Japan only characters, but fans wanted them in. The popularity of another Intelligent system, Famicom wars also helped FEs release in west (and before you wonder no..paper Mario didnt help fire emblem to get localised =P)
Fire emblem is popular due to multiple reason. The main reasons are the characters and the difficulty. In most fire emblem games, if your unit dies in the battle, they are gone forever (from that savefile anyways). This creates a strategic element to the series, as the player wants to keep their favorite characters alive. The "perma death" however is also a reason why people consider the series to be hard and beginner unfriendly
As for myself I only played the newest installment: fire emblem awakening and I loved it. Its overall a nearly perfect game. The characters are likeable all with their own quirks and stories, and the main storyline was pretty good. The fact that you could make an "avatar 2 character to represent yourself sort of was also something I liked. The gameplay and soundtrack were great too. There were some things i didnt like about the game, however most of them were minor and not worth mentoining, as a lot of them were focused on either plotholes/unexplained stuff and the fact that a certain optional recruitable character kinda ruined the main story (spoilers. I am talking about Emmeryn)
Despite my love for Fe: A being huge (to the point its my favorite 3ds game for the moment) I am not sure if I want to play the other games. MAybe because for me Fire emblem was too good. Also I am afraid I wouldnt enjoy the others as much
