PLOT
In paper mario - jewels of life, a new antagonist is introduced. Lord Drel and Widow Jaz. They have a plan to take over the world. They capture princess peach because appearently the gems in her crown have magical power within them to help them take over. when they find out mario is on his way to rescue peach, they sacrafice the jewels to stop mario, but keeping the most powerful for themselves.
Characters
Mario - mute, the main hero of this game
Partners - Rebellious minions who help mario on his adventures
Lord Drel (LD) - main antagonist, noticeably lazy as you dont encounter him in person that much in the game, rather widw jaz
Widow Jaz (WJ) - noticeably likes lord drel, but he never takes a hint. you encounter her many times in the game trying to stop mario.
PROLOUGE
The prolouge starts out at LD and WJ base, where they are discussing a plan to take over the world. one of LD's servants fly in and notify them that his radar is receiving strong magical energy messages from the mushroom kingdom. They fly out to princess peach's castle and find out that her crown is going nuts with energy!
Mario and luigi are already at princess peach's castle this time. as mario is leaving, he sees "peach" being swiped and captured. little does he know it is a poorly drawn cardboard cutout of the princess. he chases after lord drel into the forest behind her castle, where he is tapped under a metal cage. Lord drel laughs and returns to capture the real princess and escapes nowhere to be found.
As mario is in the cage losing hope, an upbeat goomba names Goombianne emerges from a bush and is shocked to see this. she quickly unlocks the cage and listens to mario's story. she says she was fixing a pipe behind a tree that led to her hometown when she overheard all the commotion. she takes mario with her to her hometown, Goom City. right as they are leaving, LD's Servant comes out of nowhere sayign he was sent by LD to finish mario off, so they fight. this is where the usual action commands tutuorial happens. when the servant is defeated he drops his radar and flies off. The radar is mysterious and they dont know how to use it so they head o goom city to ask energy scientist jotheim, goombiannes granddad. he activates it and tells them what its for, but says there are no readings of energy anywhere, but discovers a huge sign of energy far off in the distance, so far they ant even see where it is.
back in LD castle, he servant returns and tells LD and WJ that mario has the radar and has escaped. LD is scared the radar will show all the readings from this castle because of peach's crown so he scatters the gems to many enemies telling them they can do as they please with the power as long as they stop mario.
In bowsers castle, bowser is getting news that peach was kidnapped, and sets off to collect the jewels as well, hoping to rescue peach and have her love him, telling his minions to stop mario as well.
Back to Goom City, jotheim says he just got energy readings from 12 different locations. coincidentally, there are 12 different pipes with no destination scattered across the city. Jotheim reccomends mario talk to sally, the tinkerer, to make the destination of the pipes where mario needs to go. The first location was called Koopalia Hills. Sally knows where it is, and its actually pretty close to Goom City. so she goes ahead and fixes the pipe and might as well fix the others. as of now the only only one mario can enter is the one to koopalia hills. So he enters the pipe. Before entering, Goombianne offers to come along, saying her life has gotten pretty boring. This is where she joins mario's party.
Setting
Goom City: (Goombianne's Tattle) " Goom City is my hometown, a city populated pretty much like 75% Goombas. This city is urban full of tall brick skycrapers. There are many shops here selling stuff ranging from costumes to items. Traveling merchants come here days at a time before leaving selling rare and unique things. So buy them before its too late! Also, this city is littered with themed pipes that lead to where you need to go for each chapter. you'll know if youre at the right one because a cardboard backround designed as the land you are traveling to will pop up sort of like a pop up book behind the pipe when you approach it." Peach's Castle: (Goombiannes Tattle) " Peach's Castle, the princess lives here, where is she now? we dont know...."
CHAPTER 1 - A TIME TANGLE!
Mario exits the pipe to find himself in Koopalia hills. confused, he makes his way down to Koopalia town, a small town in the middle of Koopalia Hills. but its no ordinary town... the mayor is a scientist who has discovered a way to go back and forth from past to present. When mario enters the village, he sees a mixture of styles. Many middle ages type clothing and slang and modern styles. confused, Goombainne suggests that he talks to the mayor. when he goes to the mayors house, he finds a crowd outside his house. he talks to the mayor, outside as well who tells mario they recently have had a piranha plant problem, and that there are some in his house taking his family hostage. Mario goes in and saves the day. as a reward, the mayor lets him use the time machine in his labratory/basement whenever he likes. Mario goes to the right of town to find that the exit is blocked off due to an infestation of piranha plants. he goes through the time machine to find himself in medival times. again, a mixture of styles. when he leaves the mayors house, he finds Koopahn bribing these guys at a pub next to the mayors house. he ignores it and continues his journey east of the town. he eventually finds himself stuck at the entrance to a hedge maze, where needs bush clippers to get through. goombianne points out if he can bring pesticides from modern day, he can clear out the land to make sure piranha plants cant infest it in modern day. mario goes back to present day and buys pesticide. He then goes back to mdeival times and sprays the path, then goes back to present day. Now the path is open! he ventures to the hedge maze now open and finds bush clippers inside. he goes back to medival time and uses it to open the entrance. he then finds a thick thicket that she needs to burn, he goes back to present gets a flamethrower and and burns the thicket and finds a pedestal with a mark on it, symbolizing that there was something here long ago. he goes back to medival times and on his way leaving the town, Koopahn is in sort of a pickle by the exit of the town. He scammed these 3 guys and they want their money back. When he declines, they want to fight him. mario offers to pay them the fee and let Koopahn go. in thanks, he offers to help mario slay the monster at the end of the hedge maze. He joins your party. in the hedgemaze the item is on the pedestal and its a portable warp pipe, used to travel between the town and hedgemaze. The rest of the hedgemaze is like the first half, until he reaches the end (modern day). He finds the reason for all the piranha plant ruckus! a Piranha plant named Piccolo and his loyal sidekick Peeko fight mario! when defeated Piccolo gives mario the jewel and dies. thus ending Chapter 1.
Boss Fight - Piccolo And Peeko
piccolo is a piranha plant stationed inside of his pipe with orange and green color scheme. Peeko is a young boy inside of a piranha plant costume who an even understand piranha plant languege.
Piccolo - in his pipe. Koopahns attacks will not effect him. He has 2 attacks, he can bite and breathe poison, which will poison for 2 attacks if not blocked. once at 1 health he will no longer be able to take damage until peeko reaches 1 health as well.
Peeko - Throws spore bombs every few turns for small damage but will stun if not blocked. at 1 health he will heal piccolo for 10 HP and run away.

Koopalia Hills (Modern/Past) - Has your basic goombas and Koopas, but in past, the goombas and koopas carry sheilds, increasing defence.

Koopahn - Hence his name, he is a very very greedy koopa. he is hired as the towns joker in the past so he is dressed as a joker. mario sees him many times in the past swindling people or asking for money. mario rescues him after he is about to be beat up so he offers to join mario on his adventures.
Chapter 2 - An Explosive Time in Sigada!
mario exits the pipe to find himself in a bathroom. As he is leaving, he notices 3 red bob-ombs wearing hats with a symbol on them walk in. they begin talking to eachother while mario hides. they say some very suspecious things about someone named Bomboomis' plans. They mention where they come from, a factory atop Mount Ombbob, and how Bomboomis will use a powerful jewel to pollute the air enough to chase out all the non bob omb civilians of singada, to make it a bob omb only city. When they are about to leave mario runs out of hiding and the bob ombs, scared he overheard, fight mario. After mario wins, he exits the bathroom to reveal he is in an Airport's Lobby. Upon leaving the airport he is astonished by how beatiful singada is. it is a snowy city with big houses and upscale buildings (think of london during christmas time) It gives off a town during Christmas time vibe, complete with lights and everything. Mario, remembering the jewel is atop the mountain, he tries to go to it, only to be stopped by the agency saying they cant let him through without a climbing liscence for singada. Mario only has coins, which will not work to buy a liscence so mario must earn money. The Citizens of Singada are very hard workers so alot of them give mario chores and in return pay mario with singada cash. but at night, bandits come loose and will still some of the money if not careful, but they can be battled. After mario acquires the liscence, he is let through to the mountain. He arrives in expedition station, here there are people selling items and there are people getting ready to climb the mountain. Mario hears that nobody has ever reached the top due to the higher up you go the harder it is to see and breathe. He can also talk to Bomberrie, an enthusiastic flying bobomb (HeliBomb - Bobomb with helicopter wings). When climbing he fights enemies as usual and reaches a camp site. mario can not go further because they are reconstructing a bridge on the other side of the site. Mario must go to the hotel where he talks to bomberrie. Unfortunately, he was advised to not continue his climb because he does not have a partner to go with him. he asks mario to join, thus joining mario's party. The other side of the camp site is now open, mario can continue. as mario nears the top, the air becomes very thick and hard to see/breathe. at this point mario has a breathing meter and will pass by passed out climbers, mario must rescue all of them and bring them down to the hotel as each f them will reward you with an item needed to proceed. to make sure mario does not pass out himself, he must fight Ty-Foos (https://www.mariowiki.com/Foo), which will use a blowing attack, regenerating mario's air level. bomberrie is immune to the thick air so it is advised to not swap characters. eventually mario will reach a gate, which is locked. mario will see a passed out climber, which when he saves, will provide him with a "Strange object" he found, after heating it over the fireplace in the hotel, it will melt and reveal a key. mario uses this key to cross the gate, leading him to a factory, with the same Symbol the bob-ombs in the beginning had on their hats, on the door. Bomberrie suggests this is where Bomboomis is and they enter. Mario ventures through the factory evenually getting to bomboomis' room where they fight. When mario wins, bomboomis drops the jewel, thus clearing the air, destroying the factory and ending chapter 2.
Boss Fight - Bomboomis
Bomboomis is a very overweight Heli Bomb just like Bomberrie. and he will even try to convince bomberrie to join him if he is out when you encounter him.in this fight, he can swich stances from floating to standing. he can only float a few turns at a time (or until mario jumps on him a few times) before him falling due to him being very big and his helicopter wings being small. If you drop him by jumping, he will be unable to attack or defend, lowing his defence and having him miss a turn. while flying he can fly over to mario and slam himself onto mario or slam himself on the ground to make an earthquake. While on the ground, he can ram himself into mario or explode.

Mario exits the pipe to find himself high in the clouds. In Sky Garden! He ventures his way along to Sky City, a city inhabited fully of Ruff Puffs, suffering from earthquakes ( in the clouds? ) and meets a high school girl named Lana. But she and her boyfriend are going through hard times in her relationship. You follow her through her typical teenage drama for most of the chapter until you witness her boyfriend james kissing her best friend! Devastated, lana locks herself in her room and blasts music so mario must cheer her up. when she is ready, you both venture to Cloud Peak, where lana and james ( + his 2 freinds) are arguing. Before things get too crazy mario jumps in to fight James and his friends, when you defeat them, Lana joins your party. Mario finds an entrance to the Nebula Citadel, underground sky city Where he fights Blastine a Giant Boomboxer who doesnt know how to lower her volume. before entering he enounters bowser floating using the support of baloons, who wants to fight, but the baloons cant handle the wait and bowser falls. mario fight blastine and wins, Thus ending chapter 3 and the mysterious earthquakes.
Boss Battle
Blastine is a giant who loves music and uses it for her advantage. She gas 4 attacks, she can Release 4 soundwaves, dealing high damage each and you must block each one sepreately, mising one block will allow the rest to hit you freely. She can also stomp on mario, create and earthquake with her music and stun your partner by singing horribly.

Chapter 4 - Mushabian Mystery
Mario arrives in mushab, a town in the middle of the desert ( think of dry dry outpost) plagued by a neverending night time. Mario must travel through a cold, dark desert in search for the 7 keys located in ruins under the desert to be able to gain access to the Mushabian Pyramids where he must fight Shizelle a ghost who uses illusions with the power of the jewel and used his illusion to cast a never ending darkness. After defeating Shizelle he drops the jewel thus clearing the sky. A sad Shizelle cries and tells mario his story and how he just wants to rest in peach but he cant due to a group of miniature suns always waking him up when the sun rises. So mario goes out and kills them and shizelle can now rest in peace and even gives him a gold bar thus ending chapter 4.

Shizelle carries two spike balls on chains that he will swing at mario for high damage. he can also cloak himself, cause rocks to fall, clone himself, summon illusionary rocks to throw at you (may or may not do damage) and darken the arena for a turn.

Chapter 5 - Theives in the City!
Mario arrives in Darvania, a very poor city landlocked by mountains. People in this city are greedy and steal from each other daily and are not to be trusted. Mario made a mistake by doing so. Mario must get into the mines next to the city to retreive the jewel but he needs a card to get in. What he does not know is that the mines are being controlled by Marocka, a greedy rock who takes people who enter as slaves to mine precious gems for him. Mario trusts this little boy who agrees to give him an access card if mario goes out and does his bidding such as stealing precious items from other people. The boy finally gives mario he card but it does not work! mario returns to the house to find it empty. mario searches around the town until he finds the boy huddled over a pile of gold. the boy gives mario the real card and runs off with he gold instead. 2 men walk by and assume he took their gold and fight mario. mario has to run from the battle or else he is one shotted ( he is warned). mario enters the mines and is not able to leave due to guards guarding the exit. He travels through the mines encountering many miners, young, old, and even skeletons. He eventually encounters a swoop (bat) with an angler light names Swishlyn who says she will join mario to fight marocka after all this time watching the suffering. mario travels through he dark tunnels using swishlyns light to light it up before reaching the golden palace where Marocka is. upon defeat, the miners will all swarm the golden palace and overthrow marocka and celebrate. the doors open back up to the city thus ending chapter 5.

Marocka is a huge rock that holds golden maracas, he can throw these, and also throw rocks for big damage. he usually resorts to throwing his maracas when he is near death because he cant recover them but they do massive damage. he can roll into mario and partner and can spit gold at mario. he can also steal marios items including his hammer and FP abilities and use them once before mario recovers them.

Chapter 6 - Of Fairies and Drakes!
The setting of this world is so unusual i have to describe it before i explain the plot. the setting until you reach the town is in 2D, like SPM. the whole path and town is shaded black as if everything was a shadow. it is also dusk so the sky is reddish with a sunset. even the sun is completely black. it is a plains so imagine a cornfield or something like kansas. like wheat and tall grass. recap: 2D, everything is pitch black, the ground, the enemies, the fauna, the buildings, the pipes, everything but the sky, which is sunset, so its kind of reddish. Shade city is also like this but its in 3D and a little less shaded.
Mario makes his way through the Badland Plains, until he reaches shade city. When he gets to shade city he talks to a man by the fountain who basically explains that there is a mystical castle somewhere inside the enchanted forest next to the city. and that there is a drake in that castle who is capturing, corrupting and rereleaing the fairies back into the forest to drain the forest of its energy. right as soon as mario is about to leave bowser yells out marios name and claims he will be the one to save princess peach. mario and bowser fight, but before it can finish, a group of corrupted pixies blast bowser off somewhere and tells the town that they will destroy the whole town but they will occasionally say something along the lines of help me. mario is about to fight them when he realizes there is a purifier item in the shop, he buys one, then fights them, mario purifies them, returning them to their regular state. they ask mario to help their freinds and one joins mario's party, named chyna . mario enters the enchanted forest, full of magic and corrupted fairies who mario must purify. mario enters the castle and fights wyvenice, a drake who wants to corrupt the home of the pixies. after mario wins, the pixies return to normal and mario gains the jewel, thus ending chapter 6.
