What is your favorite level from Mario 64, or 64 DS?
I have two:
Whomp's Fortress: This level is located in the sky. That is so awesome, but it also has some great platforming. It feels like an obstacle course. If you fall, you may die, so that adds some excitement. I loved fighting Whomp and this was the first course that I fully completed with all powers stars. To the top of the fortress was my favorite star in the game.
Tall, Tall Mountain: This level also involved lots of platforming and a vertical climb. The secret slide is the best in the game and flying around the top of the mountain is awesome! ^_^ I loved having my hat stolen, and all the various weird creatures here.

I like Cool, Cool Mountain and Snowman's Land the best. I've always been particularly fond of snow levels for some reason. Lethal Lava Land is another of my favorites.
Wow, talk about extreme opposites, you like snow AND lava.
I have always loved snow levels as well, like Lemmy! ^_^ However, I thought Snowman's Land was my favorite when I was little. Cool,Cool Mountain is fun because of all the sliding.
How did you feel about Jolly Roger Bay? That level always divides people.

My favorite is Jolly Roger Bay. I think its visuals are pretty dated and egh, but I'd like to see an expansion on that concept. The basics are well-done: it's a dark area with a lot of water and a lonely abandoned boat. The music is peaceful and simplistic, but right when you enter the water, another layer of atmosphere comes in, and when you dive, it becomes even slightly menacing. The eel, too... that thing scared gamers as well. There's also the cave part where there is percussion set and collapsing pillars and electric treasure chests... that part was pretty weird.
People seem to remember Dire Dire Docks more (they call the soundtrack "Dire Dire Docks"), but I prefer Jolly Roger bay.
The eel traumatized me. I was so scared to go into the deep water as well. The Mario drowning scene does not help at all. This was the game that made me afraid of deep water.

Majora's Mask made it fun to swim underwater. The N64 version at least.
I think I was scared of drowning in that game, but it's pretty hard to drown in the first place if you know what you're doing. I like diving deep to find clams, green shells, red coins, and defy water pressure physics.
Dire Dire Docks needed more room. It is hard to explain, but that level felt small. Smaller than all the others in some way.
I loved how open Jolly Roger Bay was back when I first played it. It felt like an endless ocean to me. I love surfing on the green shells and then slamming into a wall!

I think both levels are pretty small cave-like areas rather than a full-blown ocean. But I'd rather they improve the swimming controls first before they expand on the oceans thing. I wish green shells respawn because the fun tends to be short-lived.
Big Boo's Haunt. I just love ghost house levels, and this one felt like it had a ton of secrets and mysteries. Like the Ghoul Medal thing, or the secret room, or the weird coffins and stuff. And that piano, can't forget about that.
Wario fan, Mario game modder and interested in every Mario RPG you can imagine!
I also run Wario Forums, which is a place to discuss the Wario Land and WarioWare franchises.

I also really liked Wet Dry World, especially the underwater city or something like that. The underwater city felt like a little empty toy town, and there are a bunch of red coins in there.
I have to go with Big Boo's Hunt, I just have thing for darker related things. I do like most of the other level except for the last two (Mostly due to doing the 100 coin challenge on them were pretty hard)
...I don't have a favorite arena, but i will go with 1)Tall Tall mountain i liked it so much when i was child 2)Tick Tock Clock:It's a pretty cool idea,I like the Clock concept idea

Jolly Roger Bay and Tick Tock Clock were both really memorable environments for me. So was Hazy Maze Cave, but I spent so long trying to find my way through it that I just can't enjoy it anymore. I also liked Big Boo's Haunt. It took me FOREVER to figure out how to even get there (I just assumed you couldn't attack Boos, as usual), but it was worth it.
Hazy Maze Cave scared me so much when I was little. I once fell into the haze and staring dying, and in a panic I dropped the controller. Mario suffocated and I was horrified. I would panic every time I had to run through there. A pity too, because I consider the underwater cavern to be one of the most beautiful sites in the entire game.
