This topic is here to help us highlight some great topics in gaming! All characters are welcome here.
I want to start off by mentioning Ryu from Breath of Fire. He appears in every game in the series, but he is not the same person, but a reincarnation of past heroes. He is part dragon and can transform into Dragons throughout the games. He is a classic silent protagonist.
I will talk about a character I like a lot and who is possibly my favorite female videogame character. She is hilarious and was one of my strongest characters in my playthrough. I am talking of Anna from the Fire Emblem series
Anna is a recurring character in the fire emblem franchise appearing in almost every single installment of the game. In her earlier apperances she was a merchant who sold rare items. However starting from fire emblem awakening Anna has been one of the "optional" recuritable units. In this game she is a trickster classed unit.
I absolutely adore Anna. She is cute and hilarious. I love her tricksterlike personality and how she tries to get money even with suspicous ways (the supports with Tiki anyone). She was also one of my powerhouses in my awakening playthrough . All in all Anna is an enjoyable character and my favorite Fire Emblem character. The only downside for her is that she has only 2/3 support conversations but oh well. Cant wait to see her return in Fates, where you can recruit her again ^^

Anna reminds me of Katt from Breath of Fire 2. Both are the speedy, sassy types. They are some of the best members in their respective parties.
Katt starts off as a fighter and is involved in a tournament before Ryu recruits her to his party. She never left my group after that. They also remind me of Midna for her sarcastic comments.
That sounds cool ^^ I will talk about a character I like a lot and who is possibly my favorite female videogame character. (...)
I have never played Fire Emblem, but Anna sounds like an interesting character. Glad you like her.
I have a soft-spot for cute characters; Kirby, Starfy, Yumetarō, Kururin, Yakopoo. Some of the characters that I like come from obscure Nintendo games that I enjoy, like the Sablé Prince from For Whom the Bell Tolls (which I know you enjoy too). He began as a character with an element of naiveness about him who thought that problems could be solved by spending money on things, but he developed to become a kind-hearted prince (though he already was) who gained the friendship and respect of many.
I also like Wario as a playable character, and I like Fox and Klonoa, but have yet to play a Klonoa game. I like Red because I feel that the final battle in Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal and the remakes was atmospheric and promoted nostalgia of the old days of Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow. I also like Jill from Drill Dozer, a strong-willed female protagonist that is not too often seen in video games.

I also like cute characters, like Prince Fluff! He will probably never return, or have his series, but he was adorable when he helped Kirby in Epic Yarn. That game apparently started out as a new series starring Prince Fluff, but was changed at the last minute to a Kirby game to boost sales. I do not know if that is true, but it is a shame that new games are frowned upon if so.
Diddy Kong will always be my number one character of all time. He is just too cool and his main game DKC2 was my childhood favorite.

Yes. That's right, it was mentioned in an Iwata Asks.
I like the Donkey Kong characters too, but mainly just Donkey Kong particularly.
Yeah new IPs sre kinda frowned upon, both by Nintendo and the fans. Splatoon was originally going to be a mario spinoff let thst sink in.
Torchickens you have a grest taste. Sl does xan, altho i rhink we all know his Rundasbsession
Also one of my favorite character tropes are those types of charscyers that have surprisingly amount of depth. A good example of this is Count Bleck from the Mario franchise. One of the most tragic villains Nintendo ever had Bleck was truly an enjoyable villain and character. Being prehaps the only Mario villain with really deep and interesting motives. Whowould have expected a happy go lucky platformer franchise would have a villain who is willing to destroy everything because he cant see his loved one again. Or that one of the bittersweetest lovestories I witnessed is from a Mario game. Oh wrll. Its a shame that Antasma didnt become the Bleck of ML series
Another example of a surprisngly deep and interesting villain is Ogura from the Densetsu no Stafy series. I know I have talked about this eeldiot on several occasions (including my top ten villain list) but I couldnt resist. For me Ogura is one of the best examples of a character with surprising amound of character developement. He started as a rather simple villain but over course of the series its revealed thathe just wants respect. His storyarc is surprisingly deep for a platformer villain and tjats what I ador about him. Even if his ultimate fate was sad (I legitly cried a bit and know I am not the only one) it was fitting. Why dont more people mentoin this eeldiot when talked about Nintendo villains....wait its because he is from Japan exclusive games
If you need a non villanous example of charactwr with surprising amount of depth I can think of Vivian from Paper Mario: Thousand year door. I just adore her as a character and her character devdlopement. Its a joy to see her gain some selfcoindifice (how does one spell it)
Would rather go to Waffle Kingdom than this Mushroom crap.

One character I'd like to bring up is... wait for it... RAYMAN!
He's a quirky, memorable cartoony guy. I mean, emphasis on quirky. Not only is he limbless, he also uses his hair to float like a helicopter. His powers vary from game to game, but he always uses his helicopter hair and his punching fists to attack. I love his platformers (I've yet to play the first one, which I heard is pretty difficult). That he was "leaked" in Smash Bros. makes me feel very sad and disappointed because I really want him to be a playable character in Smash 4, despite the growing amount of third party characters. I hope he makes it in as playable in the future, because I'll use the crap out of him (which is saying a lot because my mains pool isn't big).
My signature contains most of my favorite characters in gaming (Excluding NICOLE as she is a comic-only character), in addition I also really like Wilfre from Drawn to Life, Soma Cruz from Castlevania Aria/Dawn of sorrow, Cecil Harvey from Final Fantasy IV, Panne from Fire Emblem Awakening, Miles Edgeworth from Ace Attorney, Sissel from Ghost Trick Phantom Detective, and MANY others.
