Hey, what's up, mates? I'm pretty new to these forums. I've been browsing for a while, sure, but now I've decided to actually go ahead and make an account so I could present this:
MIKEY'S TALE, a near fully modded version of TTYD I've been developing on for the past few months.
Mikey's Tale is a project that plans to fully mod TTYD for the first time. This includes all dialogue, music, and textures. On the note of that, any of you ever heard of Paper Mario: Repainted? It was a mod made for TTYD by Games Repainted that changed dialogue and textures, but not everything. Mikey's Tale is heavily inspired off the Repainted Mod, and seeks to add not only a cohesive story but also much more new stuff. The only thing I will not be changing in this mod will be the maps programmed into the game, as that would require some Hex editing, which I'm not fully educated in yet.
Now that we've got that out of the way, I'd like to tell you what the mod is about! It doesn't have Mario as the star. Heck, every character in the game isn't from the Mario Universe at all. Instead, it's real people I have met or know in real life. Let me explain...
Mikey's Tale is basically if you took all of your old yearbooks and dumped them onto TTYD, hoping something sticks. The thing that stuck just so happened to be an old friend of mine named Mikey. This game basically pays tribute to him. Take the nicest kid you know, and bump that up by 10 because Mikey is officially the nicest. The idea for the game sprung up when I thought, "What if I take the nicest person I have ever known, and throw all odds at him to finally make him snap? How would he react? How would others react?". This was what essentially kickstarted me to start working on Mikey's Tale.
I have a lot to show, but I'd first like to explain the story of the game, so you get a better taste of what is going on...
It's 2007. A new two story Junior High school is built. It is the biggest in the state, with two expansive stories, one above ground, and one under. The school was acclaimed for its high education and incredible student appreciation. It was primarily the "perfect school" for such a while, until one day, something happened...
A student messing around with storage doors on the school's B-floor accidentally was electrocuted by a loose socket wire. The student died and the school was forced to shut down for multiple years to remedy the lawsuits placed on the school and what the child's family had to cope with. It was a dreadful time for everybody who worked there. Many went unemployed, and the school was forced to demolish the B-floor of the school and sell any redeeming parts to renovate the entire school, making it one story, but safer and more expansive.
Fast forward years later, to 2014. The school re-opens, and ran under new establishment. Mikey and his friends go through the first year surprisingly with no major problems. Nothing of interest happens until he reaches the end of the 7th Grade. It's the last week of school. The school is throwing a huge party for a successful year without any major situations, and everything seems pretty well! As the end of year activities take place, Mikey and friends step outside to purchase ice cream at lunch for the occasion. Everyone is filled with glee. Finally, a good school year comes to an end. Mikey bites into the cone and...
Darkness.
Mikey awakes passed out on the floor of his house, not knowing what had happened at all. His best friend, Damon, arrives, saying that he had passed out during lunch and that today was the last day of school. Mikey has been knocked cold for a few days now. As Mikey tries to regain conscientious, he realizes that he must make it to school to claim his Awards of the year at the ceremony, a special event every year held to honor the academic people of the school. When Mikey arrives, however, he realizes things aren't quite right. The floors of the school are all mixed up, and the sky is darker and much more grim. The students looked like monsters, disillusioned, and afraid. He then spots his twin sister up ahead, Maizie, being verbally harassed by a teacher demanding the whereabouts of some sort of "school map".
After Mikey grabs a hold of his sister and pulls her to the main hall of the school, she explains how the school doors have been shut for the past few days, and that "everything as we know it is being corrupted". Mikey and Maizie decide to investigate with the help of one of their History teachers, who have also been corrupted by these unknown forces. The History teacher explains that Mikey lost all control of himself when biting into that ice cream, and that is was a set up by someone to get Mikey to pass out. While Mikey lost consciousness, however, he apparently wandered down to a hidden part of the school long forgotten; The B-Floor.
Suspects say they saw him wander out of the 7th Grade exit door and out of the school entirely. Mikey suddenly remembers, and retraces his steps to the area where the "incident" years ago occurred, the 7th Grade Student Lobby. In the front was the 7th Grade exit door, the last exit that remained in-tact from the B-floor. Mikey tries to open it, but then realizes it it patched up by 7 key locks originally not found there. The History teacher then explains how there are 7 keys to that door scattered around the school, and that the map Mikey had was a school map addressing these keys that were around the premises of the school. The teacher explains the only way to escape now is to find those 7 keys, and that someone named Camden might know the whereabouts of them. This is where our story begins. The quest for the missing keys to escape the corrupted school. But why is it corrupted? Well, let me explain...
Imagine our world is actually two worlds always intersecting one another all day, everyday. The Media world and the Real world. The Media World is an alternate world where everything portrayed in media is actually real to the inhabitants there, and they live off the very essence of media, memes, and news. The Real World is the normal one we all live in, and the Internet was a gateway created to connect these two worlds together. Well, it turns out there is a machine in Mikey's school labeled as the DARKRIDGE. A powerful machine rumored on the grounds of the school every day and what it is capable of. This machine, nobody knows where it is located, but what they do know is that is was suddenly activated one day, and that it created a wormhole that sucked everything from the Media World into the Real World. Now everything that has been portrayed by the media is becoming fact. Inside Jokes are becoming the people they are based off of, and photoshop's of teachers into memes are now actually becoming memes. Everyone who remained in school on that faithful day with the end of year party is, for lack of a better term, "turning into a living meme", except for Mikey. Mikey was the only person able to escape practically unknowingly because of that cone he ate. He is the only person there no affected by the Media World spilling into the Real World. But the Media is toxic. Mikey is alerted he has around a full day to escape the school before the Media toxicity gets to him. The 7th Grade Door, their last resort exit, has a barrier created by the DARKRIDGE that won't let corrupted people cross. Mikey is the only person left not taken by the Media power. It is now up to Mikey to explore the school, the fields, the underground areas, and everywhere else to escape the school and stop the DARKRIDGE from spilling every last bit of the Media World into ours, and he only has a day or so to do it.
But who made the DARKRIDGE?
Who died in the school?
Why are the teachers going insane?
Who is the leader of the Media?
Along the way he will team up with friends, enemies, and fight the craziest portraits painted of Media ever. This is MIKEY'S TALE.
Now, it is worth noting that the whole game doesn't take place in the school. I don't want to spoil anything, but there are more locales to explore that will be revealed as you play.
The game is a full repaint of TTYD. You'll be exploring normal looking places of the school and meme filled places, all for the price of one.
I plan to mod all the three PM original games in the future due to the potential it has, especially SPM.
Here is some concept art and in game shots:

Big Blooper as The Fine Bros.

Crump is now a deranged teacher.

Notes I put while working on the textures for Mikey.
I originally wanted to do Paper Jam as the mod but then realized it proved to be practically impossible with the way hacking newer 3DS games have been.
At first the game started off as a joke but the more I sank my ideas into it the more I realized I could not only say something funny but prove a point on this generation of kids and the impact media has. (Trust me, I would know. I'm not a 50 year old man working on this.)
But with that said, I've got work to do. This will be a pretty big project to balance out with school and such, but once I finish it, it will be awesome.
I want to release it around the end of the school year by 2017, not only as a sign that school is over but also for the 10th anniversary of Super Paper Mario.
I have three others working on this, and I'll put their names here now:
Sam - composer / Music director (not all tracks will be original. Some will be mashups like that of Siivagunner would make)
Noah - Writer / Texture artist (basically photoshop's the characters, cleans them up, and whatnot)
Me - Pretty much everything else. This will be the very small team working on it but we'll make with what we can!
Hopefully it comes out in 2017 or so. Just got to Chapter 3 and currently working on it. It's pretty good so far, if I do say so myself.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
