Considering Next Level games took Miyamoto's advices and still managed to make an excellent game, i guess you could say it's also Intelligent system's fault as well (it didn't help that the team was made 90% new peoples IIRC)

Just downloaded it from Wii U eShop (first time I play this game, actually) and so far this is actually good (much better than Dream Team) and I'm currently in Beanbean Castle Sewers. My favorite themes are (so far) Hoohoo Village and the boss theme.
Yeah I downloaded it on the eShop too. I don't know why but I don't like it that much. The enemies die too quickly, the bosses die to slowly (DARN YOU TRUNKLE,) overall it's difficult to navigate... eh. It just wasn't what I expected. I did like the original characters though. The Beanbean kingdom was very peculiar and interesting.
This is why i prefer Antasma in this game, the guy actually did most of the things in the game and he worked hard to become a credible threat only to get shitted over at the end.
I actually really love Antasma as a character. I just kinda dislike DT which usually makes me ignore DT and all in my headcanons. I hope that I can make Antasma get a decent role in my fangame possibly. He will probably really hate Bowser xD
Anyhow
SSS is my second fave M&LRPG probably. I loved almost everything about it.
Fun facts 'bout me: -I'm bisexual. -I am a huge Mario fan. Also Kingdom Hearts and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2: Explorers of Sky. -I am making fangames and original projects: check out Super Mario RPG: The Prism Stone in the Fan Creations forum! -I have Asperger's Syndrome. -I am shy but I am friendly and don't dislike others for no reason.
Dream Team was okay, but I did not care too much for Paper Mario's version of him.
Bowser's Inside Story was best though. He got stuff done! Fought bosses that only he could beat, saved his minions, saved the whole Kingdom, and started to repair his castle!
I actually like DT's portrayal. Not as in it's the best, more like how I see it as character development in the series.
In M&LSS, he is a victim all the time. In PiT he begins to become a bit more competent. In BiS he undergoes lots of character development by working with Chippy, the Giant Battles, and kicking Fawful and Dark Bowser ass. In DT the fruits of all the character development make him the master manipulator and truly credible threat he is.
That's how I see it.
Also, somehow I don't feel Bowser's evil. Why would Bowser help Mario multiple times? He's working with Mario. He probably had lots of chances in SPM and SMRPG where his arch nemesis let his guard down and Bowser can destroy him yet he doesn't. And he seemed oddly emotional in BiS's ending with the present cake. I believe he's not quite evil, just raised to be a royal brat cause a big kingdom needs a ruler who isn't goody-goody etc... I also remember that in YI and PiT Baby Bowser isn't so much evil as he is a royal brat either. In short, I think Bowser just doesn't know any better than doing what he does.

I like Bowser played for laughs, but still capable of amazing feats. That is why I see BIS as his best portrayal. Plus, he got more screen time and we got to play as him which allowed us to see how powerful he truly is compared to the Bros. throughout the game.
I see your point, though. I just disagree with it. No biggie. We all got opinions here.
Would rather go to Waffle Kingdom than this Mushroom crap.

TBH, I never *really* liked any of the RPG-confined characters in any series. They simply arrive and leave way too quickly to leave a huge impression on my head. I suppose if they made more appearances outside the series, they would be more memorable, but the problem is that sticking within their series *is* their schtick.
I'm not a big fan of Bowser. I don't like him, I don't hate him. He's kind of funny at points, but he's not my favorite character, since Mario is. And then it's Luigi. And then maybe some of Paper Mario's partners. Then the rest.
On topic, the best thing about Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga is the degree of freedom between switching Mario and Luigi and even separating them at one point. I'd like more separation being taken advantage of because it, uh, feels weird to see Mario/Luigi actually alone for once. Especially in the RPG series. Finally, I miss Fire Brand and Thunder Hand. I like elemental moves being reintroduced at some point.
Well, fire brand and thunder hand didn't return entirely, but on the (PiT SPOILERS) final battle of Partners in Time, Elder Princess Shroob shoots shroob UFOs at you. The electrocuted ones hit Luigi, and the flaming ones hit Mario I believe.
Twila and Brighton also only appeared in one game and then left. RPG characters all made impressions on me. Quality over quantity. They do not need multiple appearances. I liked almost all of them and it is certainly better than resorting to generic characters.

Yeah, I think it was a nice touch, but I like to see them return as moves. Hell, maybe flesh them out more and maybe even use mana or something.
As for Brighton and Twila, yeah, they appeared in one game too, but I bet people will remember them more if they appeared in more games, realistically, within their own series. I don't expect that any time soon, though.

Probably because they a) ran out of buttons, b) Luigi wants to hide his sexy face, or c) it wouldn't be Mario & Luigi and gamers' head will asplode, costing Nintendo too many legal damages.
