Admitelly the idea of having a companion which help you all the way during the game, only to betray you, take the macguffin and become the final boss would have been awesome.
Shame Nintendo is overrun by Bowser's whiners
Yeah. It's funny how people are perfectly okay with King K. Rool (who hasn't appeared in any main console installments of his respective series since 1999) getting cast aside, but will go ballistic if anyone other than Bowser is main villain and/or final boss in any Mario game nowadays without some sort of copout. I'd say that's a prime example of double standards.

Dreambert would have been an awesome twist and boss. I would have never seen it coming.
I had no idea about the bat symbolism for rebirth, or any of that info really. That is deep. It could all fit together so well!
The fact that Cackletta (who had a bat motif and illusions) died and was "reborn" as Bowletta and Nastasia (who is implied to have been a bat which transformed into what she is) came back to the life is a good sign that they are at least aware of the "Rebirth, illusions and Dream" part
You have such a great memory, I completely forgot about Nastasia being a bat. I actually found her backstory very touching and extremely unique. She was so loyal because of that. The manga Soul Eater has has a bat rebirth theme, so I should not be shocked by all this.
Oh, and I miss King K. Rool deeply. I want him back.
That's what i would love, The Mage-King of bats Antasma died but was reborn as the Count of Nightmares (basically like Bowletta having mix of Bowser and Cackletta traits, the count of nightmares would have Count Bleck and Antasma's traits)
K.Rool was da best, unlike Bowser he know how to stay fresh

That or Nightmare Count with definite nods to magolor like that:
I could see Antasma playing on her bat side to force her to join his army or at least attempt. It might also be possible that he was the one who trapped her (showing that he is more harsher than Bleck but would avoid to kill when it is possible)
Remind me that Bowser was doing that in the Super Mario Bros super show, too bad he never did it in the games (aside from Mario Party 2)
Good story, he is a harsh boss compared to Bleck, who was actually very calm and understanding of failure. All his minions were more afraid of disappointing him rather than getting punished by him. Nastasia did all the punishing.
Oh yeah, he dressed up like a Wizard and Pirate in Mario Party 2, so hilarious. I liked that.
I could see Antasma doing punishements but doing it in a way to make his minions more devoted and enraged against his ennemie, essentially the "I punish you because i love you and i really want you to succeed" punishement
Still i'm really hoping some dream team nods in the latter months, i mean the marketing, the fact it's a year of Luigi, heck the fact that the official profile Luigi in the smash bros site was redirecting to Dream Team showed some care, so a nod to it would be really nice.
I'm still hoping for a Year of Luigi DLC pack for Mario Golf world tour.
Oh you, we need a late night special just for you and your "comedy" routines.
However, I greatly approve of "Why so serious?" because Dimentio is like Kefka, who is like the Joker. It would all be so perfect, until the goddamn Batman foils all the plans!
Yes, just yes to the hair style. Just perfect! You are so good at recalling fine details, my man.
Lavos and Raem from Final Fantasy were both beings who evolved as they devoured things, so I would be surprised at all for some evolution to take place.
You know should dimentio and antasma meet there is one thing i want dimentio to say: "Why so serious ?"
At the risk of self-promoting, I totally did this at one point in my story. Although, it wasn't Dimentio who said it, nor was it being said to Antasma. That line was used by a Dimentio look-alike, and it was directed towards Bowser.
I remember also that Lavos from chrono trigger became the Dream devourer before fully evolving into the Time devourer.
There is definitely a chance that Antasma could evolve from someone who eat dreams to someone who eat time.
Ah, so in other words, he'd becoming something like Solaris and/or the Time Eater from Sonic 2006 and Generations? In a way, Dimentio/Super Dimentio is already similar enough to the former, especially in terms of plans and motives.

Dimentio's powers seem more spatial based (with the dimension bending and stuff), so it would be fitting to have another villain who instead focus on bending time.
I could see Antasma because as mentionned above dream/nightmare based creatures have shown to have eventually effected time in pretty bad way (Darkrai nearly collapsed the Temporal tower, created a bad future and aside of the Arceus, is the only other pokemon who can learn Roar of time and the Dream devourer eventually became the time devourer)
A good way to show that would be that Antasma steal Elder shroob princess's time holes power (he did mention he could steal powers like Peach's), then attempt to affect history, possibly creating a bad future or undoing all his mistakes (he would only resort to nuking time if he get a villainous breakdown)
The "vampire" character from Soul Eater(he's really a mosquito, go figure). This pic shows how he is made of thousands of bats, all of which have to be killed for him to die.
I thought that was a neat power. Would be cool if Antasma was revealed to be made of many bats in bat form, instead of one solid form. The form above even looks human while being composed of bats, so Antasmas's more human form could still keep the bat designs.
Ah yes knew him (i need to re-read soul eater:P), but well Antasma can split into many bats too and can survive being reduced into a puddle of smoke.
Also didn't he explode after being defeated in tutorial ? Might be a sign that explosing might not be fatal from him in fact looking at his death, his explosion was almost the same as Dreamy Bowser.
I did not know you read Soul Eater. Yay! I am collecting the manga volumes in English now, but they have not all been released. So you get the basic idea. Every bat must die for him to die, and explosions would have to be all-consuming to eradicate that.
Besides, I do not see explosions as completely final, other than maybe Fawful in BIS. Especially for characters who overcome physical limitations or have endurance. A normal toad may die from an explosion, but not all villains will.
In fact unlike Fawful, there is no mention they put him for good, there is mention about cornering him, returning him to the dream world, defeating him but nothing indicate he is down for good.
In fact when he was defeated, all they said is: We did it ! We defeated Antasma.
Considering he came back after explosing in the tutorial, it might lead to something funny where you defeat Antasma, he explode, only to have all the purple stars stopping mid-air before reforming him just after.
Well i've found a site that had some japanese Miiverse community, well the reactions are pretty much "Poor Antasma", "Poor thing", "Poor guy", "The poor man who wanted to be free", "i through Antowser would be the final boss", "i through both would fight in the final boss", etc...
I hope Alpha Dream heard it because it's litterally all the fans accross the world which clearly say he didn't deserve that.

I'd say that "limo service" sounds like a more accurate description, but still. I'm glad to see that other peoples' eyes are finally opened as to how overused (and overrated) Bowser is.
