He need to be at least an arc villain like Fawful.
The only one which come close would be the Shadow Queen, also i do not think Antasma will cause a lot of suffering (if he is really a tragic villain type, then he is going to be the one which suffer the most)
I've got the rather funny idea that should it is revealed that Antasma is of the ancients (complete with the missing princess shroob traits), he would start shouting similar alien words which were wrote in the dark prognostignus:P

Bleck was tragic and still caused suffering, even if secretly manipulated. I do agree though, I do not want people to view Antasma as super evil or sadistic, but tragic.
Haha! Where did you get that idea? I love those alien words. That would be funny, even more so because it is Antasma.
I good idea would be that when Antasma would take over the game as main antagonist, there would be a new battle theme which play, the themes would become more synthetized akin to the Dream world remix and Halcandrian mix of Kirby, kind of like that: www.youtube.com/watch?v=m80DowbH3pk Basically the passage from the light hearted theme to the darker synthetized remixes would signal the switch where the story go from happy go lucky "saving the world" to the dark "stopping a tragic villain which threaten all of existence"
That idea is perfect! It would really help set the mood! The game would start off happy and then shift, and the music would help represent that!
That reminds me of Final Fantasy 6 with the happy(well, happier)World of Balance which shifted to the World of Ruin towards the second half when Kefka became the God of Magic. The over world music went from hopeful to downright dreary and meaningless.
When i think about Antasma's should really get some inspiration from Darkrai.
I mean Darkrai is a nightmare creature has a move named Dark Void (would be a good way to make Antasma related to Count Bleck), can learn Roar of Time and is responsible for some nasty temporal f***ery after he almost collapsed the temporal tower.
In fact Darkrai managed to hold off the gods of space and time, would be nice to see Antasma doing something like that.

You always amaze me with the way you draw comparisons between characters. This might be one of your best ideas yet. Darkrai is amazing, and preys in the dream world. He puts others to sleep and then sweeps!
Probably off topic but i remembered those characters named the Celestis.
The Celestis were once a special faction of the Time Lords, more precisely the Celestial Intervention Agency (basically the Time Lords's secret agency) which focused in preserving the Web of Time, eventually a War broke and to escape the temporal damage, the CIA removed themselve from the physical plane and time itself making themselves ideas.
I was thinking it would be interesting if the Tribe of the Ancients had a similar secret agence which ultimately removed themselve from time and the dimensions (either after the writing the Dark Prognosticus or the Pixl War) and became ideas, Dimentio was a member of it but refused to ascend (through he eventually did it in order to preven the Chaos Heart from disappearing), Antasma also was a member of it or at least attempted to become an idea like them (the idea being that of a nightmare) but even as today, he was still stuck in-between (being tied by his bat side)
It make sense since Dreambert implied there is higher planes of existance, so Antasma pulling a stunt like that would be interesting to see (maybe that why he died.)
When did Dreambert imply higher planes of existence? I forgot that.
Doctor Who fan? What an interesting idea this would turn out to be. It would be pretty complex for a Mario game. So Dimentio, Antasma and Bleck would all be connected?
Wow, how tragic to be stuck in between instead of being on one plane or another. That would make his character even more tragic actually.
I believe just after he got free in Dreamy Pi'illo castle, he said that Luigi was in a higher plane of consiousness (which enabled him to have the Dreamy Luigi powers) and a latter in Dreamy Dozing Sands (funnily enough Antasma match him if not outright surpass him in this area possibly implying he is in an even higher plane)
Yeah started getting into the fandom a bit thanks to my little bro.
Not very complicated, the ancients were known to mess with ideas (manipulate chance and the power of love), it could also explain what happened to Bleck and Tippi (they moved to another plane).

Oh, now I remember. Actually, the game implied quite a lot without fully stating or explaining everything. It actually felt like it is building toward a sequel, or at the very least, the next game in the series.
I like reading random Doctor Who Wikis on villains and stuff.
Complicated for Mario! lol Great point. Bleck and Tippi must have ascended on to another plane as implied by the ending of SPM.
Suddently they might have indeed have a reason to have killed Antasma in a so anticlimatic way, he volontary (or involontary) ascended to a higher plane.
I love the Daleks, dem nigh-invincible trash cans, also the new cybermens (nightmare in silver one) who can go bullet time and are like the Borg on steroids.
I get the funny image of Bleck and Tippi being all happy in their world and suddently Antasma busting out, transforming their world into his own domain and kicking them out of the plane
Well they would be still together, just out of their world+Antasma kicking them out of the plane might be a nice excuse to bring them back in their SPM forms and it could mean...A Count Bleck partner !!
Sold! I love the idea now! Bringing them back and a Count Bleck partner? Perfect. This would make Antasma the first villain to attack the higher plane, which sounds like Zelda's Sacred Realm.
On a side note, some peoples first through that Dreambert was gonna be the true antagonist because he ressembled Magolor and that Antasma was actually trying to protect the stones
Interestingly the Zeekeeper seem to have some buddhist values (the thing about throwing away material values), this with the higher planes and the bat symbolism may add to the idea that Antasma could/will reincarnate and that he will let away the traits which held him back in order to ascend to a higher plane.
Not nessesary, Bats are symbols of rebirth - the facing of fears and being reborn. Through this we learn to release fear and anything which does not fit with our new growth.
The things released can be good or evil also:
"An old European belief was that human souls take the form of a bat when they leave the body during sleep."
I doubt Nintendo know this one but it could be interesting.
On a side note, some peoples first through that Dreambert was gonna be the true antagonist because he ressembled Magolor and that Antasma was actually trying to protect the stones
Now that would have made an awesome plot twist. I'd have been perfectly fine with Antasma not being the final boss if that were to happen.
Admitelly the idea of having a companion which help you all the way during the game, only to betray you, take the macguffin and become the final boss would have been awesome.
