Color Splash is out so I can redo my list (Not even sure if I did one in this thread or not, too lazy to check)
1. Super Paper Mario 2. Superstar Saga 3. Bowser's Inside Story 4. Thousand Year Door 5. Dream Team 6. Paper Mario 7-9. Super Mario RPG/Partners in Time/Color Splash (can't decide an order for them but I think they are better than the following) 10. Paper Jam 11. Sticker Star
Personally I think Bowsers inside story and Super Paper Mario are the best . I guess Im bkased since the former was the reason I got into Mario in the first place )I was ahugr fan of the villain of that game tbh) but regardles. U like SPM because of its story and themes even if they are a bit cliche (fin facg spm is one of the few lovestories I actually like) and BiS because of the humor ,the reimaniging of nushroom kingdom and Bowser (Fawfuls great too ,even if he is nowhere near my favorite character list anymore haha)
As for the rest. -SMRPG: Really like the aesthetics and some of the characters . At the same time its a bit too basic and jrpgish. Anything it did well, other rpgs did better and more - PM 64. Never played it - Superstar saga: Its hilarious ,I adore the location of beanbean kingdom and the humor. The characters are great from the bishe parody Peasley to the overly buff bean. My favorite new characters are (unsurprisingly) Cackletta and Fawful as I really like villanous duos and these two play each other off quite well I must say ,with the former being surprisingly good for the franchises first female antagonist (well in a game that starred Mario anyways). Popple comes close second tho. That jeing said as much as I like the game I feel most of its assests the sequels did better. Sure I enjoy how this doesnt have a gimmick and is just the bros go on adventure on a weird world but the seqels have more bizarre scenarios, better writing, more fin characters and a more polished gameplay -Partners in time: it had neat concepts and the shroobs were great antagonists but at the end of the day I feel it underutilized its ideas - Sticker Star : mediocre game that has nice visuals. Not much to say -Dream team: good and has some great qualities but its flaws make it less good than it could be. Like PiT I feel the dream gimmick could have been more used and the main villain was one of the most wasted potentials in fiction imo. Dt had a lot to like: the battlesystem was polished ,the dialohue ad scenarios fun and the locations beautiful. I was quite fond of the helpet og the game,Dreambert and thought the cast as whole was solid. All in all DT is one of the better games ,but unlike some others ,the flaws are more noticeable . -Paper Jam: not that good tbh but has some redeeming qualities like the writing of certain characters -Color splash: basically sticker star done right. @ fun ,colorful adventure that vs hows that the ss formula can work. While no masterpiece ,it still is a fun and quirky in its own right
You may noticed that I left one game out. Well let me discuss a possible elephant in the room that being my opinion on Thousand Year door
My opinion is...different to say the least. Keep in mind I only have watched the game walkthrough and not played it.
Now here is the thing.I really want to like it. The game does many things right: it basically took the formula of PM64 and made it better in pretty much every way. The story was great, the scenarios imagitive and the battles fun. I really like some characters (my favorite being Cortez and Doopliss). I really liked the intermissions
So whats keeping me liking the game: the fanbase.
Now I know every fandom is bad (or at the very least has its rotten eggs) and that good games deserve the credit where credit os due. Heck at some times a reason I dont line a game as much as I could is because of the hype backlash it gets (*cough* undertale *cough*). So why am I hypocrite? I guess its like with another RPG,earthbound. I like thr game but I dont like it nowhere near much as everyone else. It has its merits but also flaws which a sequel could fix (now my opinion on a sequel is a can of worms on its own which i rather not ). Plus its fame overshadows other of the better MRPgs like BiS or SPM.
Tldr: I like the game and understand why its praised but its slightly too overrated in my book
