In the end, we shouldn't be 100% surprised. We probably set our expectations way too high...
You mean other people did
I had hope because they admitted the absence of OCs in Paper Jam and explained it with good reasons, but I didn't expect anything too different from Sticker Star 2. There's still room for hope since barely anything's been shown.

You have a point about that?
Been a fan of the Paper Mario series ever since I started playing Super Paper Mario for the Wii... No joke! XD I saw a few ads and commercials about the Paper Mario series. But I didn't start playing them for the story until I played the third game in the series. Ever since then? Many games of 2016 have come and challenge what we consider as story driven games now. UnderTale and recently FNAF's World. I hope that someday I can create my own game based upon the Paper Mario series and pay tribute.

The problem is that it's two different companies, the one that explained about the whole OCs thing is M&L developper, AlphaDream (who is known to listen to feedback and keep itself in touch with the fanbase).
The one who develop this game is Intelligent System who doesn't exactly seem notice the feedback they get outside of Miyamoto (considering they took a club nintendo survey as face value)

I thought that IS took complaints of fe and improved them.....but then again the fe fanbase is extremely broken...even if IS tried to improve complaints people would still find new things to complain about
Would rather go to Waffle Kingdom than this Mushroom crap.

I'd imagine that. Japanese fans are people too. I'm pretty sure most of us regardless of ethnicity wanted a Paper Mario game that played just like the previous two games, not whatever this is: Paper Mario: Sticker Splash. Even I'm not much of a Paper Mario fan and I can still feel the disappointment. I don't like it when people are legitimately upset, although I can't sympathize with the fanboys like those who yell bloody murder at the developers.

There is definitely a huge disapointment and not even from the most hardcore PM fans, so yeah...
I can understand the anger through, many hoped a return to the roots or at very least something different from the mess that was Sticker Star, instead they got a new PM who is shaping up to be everything they feared, a Sticker Star sequel.
I also noticed there is not much infos nor trailer shown...maybe Nintendo took notice of the backslash ? (or maybe it still is heavily in developpement ?)

Yeah, I kind of understand the anger too, but it's still an overreaction. It kind of sucks that the developers want this to be the new standard because it clearly doesn't work. They took a risk, it failed, but why are they still doing this? If they are, I expect them to make vast improvements to the gameplay because even if you do disregard the story and characters (which Sticker Star did a fairly miserable job at, like silencing Luigi and Bowser), Sticker Star doesn't do a good job.
There is probably not much information because it's a game in development. I don't think much of Paper Jam was revealted during its reveal, no?

Well, i think it's because after SS, fans through "Well after the mess that was Sticker Star, Nintendo will think twice and pull something different right ?" and then this game come out and it's still has sticker star elements.
Add also the fact that smash bros Paper Mario stage had more Sticker Star elements than TTYD one and that the PM side of PJ had also the same SS elements and you can understand why the game did recieve such backslash.
Fans think that basically Nintendo not only doesn't listen to the complains but that they try to shove the SS elements down their throats, no wonder they are angry.
I believe PJ had a trailer uploaded on the official channel and a site opened.
Well it looks neat! Interested by the Demonic Shyguy, I honestly think they should have just shown that. Everything else is OK, I didn't hate Stickers but hopefully they at least build up from it and not just minor tweaks.

"Shoving down their throats"? I think it's more like "this is Paper Mario's new face! Hope you enjoy it! sparkles".
I still don't get why they had to stick to generic Toads. I'd like friendly Koopas, friendly Goombas, friendly other enemies, Whittles, Piantas, Nokis, Shelltops, Yoshis, Ukikis, Bob-omb Buddies, etc., they have a pretty rich cast of friendly NPCs.
P.S. If partners ever ever return, make one a Para-Buzzy (which Mario finds starving and befriends), a Boomerang Bro (which he helps), and a rebellious Spike and there, a nice reference to an obscure anime.
